Hmm, almost every school is booked solid for community use every weekend. Including churches, scouts, sports using the cafeteria, auditorium, fields gyms. That's thousands and thousands of kids easily.

You may be referring to middle schools and high schools, but I’ve been with FCPS for decades, and this is simply not true of elementary schools that make up HALF of the facilities - they are not “booked solid”.

Really? Our ES has church on Sundays and sports games all day on Sat. Not sure about Sundays.

Most around us host youth basketball games in the Winter and soccer games in the Spring but are generally booked pretty solid on the weekends and most weekday evenings. But if you're not there, you really wouldn't know.

My very, very high FARMs school staff works hard with local organizations and churches to provide all our students with the appropriate cold weather gear. This has been true at every Title I school I’ve worked at.

My school is not title 1. However, there are many families with low income and children who don’t have proper winter gear (coats, hats/gloves, shoes besides crocs). Title 1 schools may have more resources and preparation for this type of support.

Sounds like you need to organize a winter gear drive and stop expecting a school district to solve every problem on your community. It’s not a sustainable mentality.

There’s really not any more bus delays than there usually are in the morning today. I don’t know if the delay helped that or not, but we certainly didn’t need a closure.
