If any of you are truly friends with Mary, you need to tell her to say something. It's one thing to be above it all, but she's now a doormat being trampled over by supporters and questioners. She wouldn't throw her colleagues under the bus like some of you have tried again and again, but she needs to take control of the narrative and put this s***show to rest.

I'd also encourage you to stop speaking on her behalf. You're doing a bad job.

I'm not sure why you're so sure this reflects badly on MK. I'm not on AEM and am just reading this thread here, but reading this stuff about how she has stuck to her own opinions even if they're not the majority's makes me like her more, and it annoys me that she is getting punished for it by getting shut out as if by mean girls in high school. Better for people to know what's going on, no?

Mary crossed Cristina and David by dissenting from the vote to enter the design phase for the Career Center project back in 2022. The rumors about not making Mary chair started swirling before the recent vote to approve the Career Center construction contract. I wouldn’t be surprised if Mary voted yes on that, despite her misgivings, because voting no would have prompted retaliation from Cristina and David. I wouldn’t be surprised either if Mary’s yes vote wasn’t enough because Cristina and David still don’t trust Mary to be a steward of the project.

Yep. CDT and DP see this project as their legacy.

Bingo. This is about the career center. She was the sole dissenting vote to advance it in 2022, and immediately afterward Barbara Kanninen flew off the handle and excoriated her.

It’s not enough that those 3 and the central office staff got their way. They demand total unanimity, because when things go wrong they want the CYA that comes from saying “no one warned us”. And if everyone always agrees then voters don’t have records to compare come election season.

MK is not a bomb-thrower, she doesn’t insult people or attack their motives. If thinking for herself and occasionally coming to a different conclusion is enough to cause two lame ducks to try to sabotage her, throw a ton of precedent out the window, and damage the SB as an institution, that tells me the SB is in a pretty bad place, and needs independent thinkers more than ever.

Who cares. The Career Center has been voted on. And I don't think there's enough votes even with the new SB members to derail it. Both Kathleen and especially Zuraya are company people. I don't think Mary is the type of person to relegislate an issue again. It's done.

Apparently 3 board members care, that's the problem. Mary didn't go along with them, now payback time.

Correct, the ppl complaining would have rather it be kept quiet.

Of course it doesn't reflect badly on Mary. It does reflect very badly on Cristina, Bethany and David. And maybe Miranda too, IDK what her involvement is.

DP. I like Mary and the fact that she is thoughtful and deliberative in her discussions and decisions. I don't think anyone certainly nobody I know has a problem with her and think she will be a fine SB chair. I have a problem with people in here and AEM are responding to rumors and denigrating other SB members for what is perceived to be happening. Do we even know that Mary is being shut out of the SB chair role, and why it's being done so besides some "insider" told us so? Who even told the insider? Mary? Every reason that supporters have thrown out makes no sense to me. So we are called minions and not "in the know". Whatever.

I am not a Cristina or David apologist, but my experiences with them have been the opposite. I can't see them treating Mary with such scorn just because they don't like her and her position/votes on issues before her. I think like the poster above, this issue needs to be laid to rest with Mary just making a short statement on maybe her intention to run as SB chair and to calm down the community. She's better than all of this hate in here.

Maybe you're an insider who knows all the deets, but for me a call for emails to the Arlington County School Board based on unsubstantiated rumors, calling out other SB members who may or may not have anything to do with it is so stupid. I hope Mary and her friends can fix it because I actually do like her as a school board member and think she would be just as good of a chairperson as anyone else.

Of course not. You're just being obtuse. AEM OP did the job for Mary, whether she asked for it or not. And boy did she go hard. And not in a good way. Hope they got what they wanted out of it. Because from where I sit, AEM OP and friends just made it a lot harder for Mary to conduct business with her colleagues.

I'm not in anyone's camp including Mary's. I like her as a SB member, but honestly, the others have been quite kind to me too. I have no reason to believe that they are as Machiavellian evil as overnight OP portrays.

So please do what AEM OP urges. Write each individual member board member under your real name individually and yell at them for a rumor that you heard from another "insider". Also go to AEM and post all of these nonsensical accusations for everyone to see under your real name again. Please report back how that goes. I'm not doing a thing for any of of you or Mary. She's a big girl and if true, has agency to settle this issue behind closed doors. Get your gavel, woman! She still has to work with them for six months regardless what happens and some of you are making it much, much worse for her.

Why would you assume Mary had anything to do with the post? Mary has a lot, lot, lot of goodwill. As a voter and APS parent, I'm offended by what's happening. It's much bigger than Mary.
