First of all, she was principal of the Rafael Hernandez School in boston public schools. She was making great money. Principals there make up to 160k a year, even higher than D.C principals. You might argue that salaries are comparable so it makes sense for her to have transferred from Boston to D.C. But that is not the complete story.

She told staff at Rafael Hernandez that she needed to leave the school so the school wouldn't get "punished alongside her." This was in March of 2024. Then she suddenly gets hired by Cristo Rey around April 2nd, 2024. Search on Google "Carolina Brito Cristo Rey" and you will find a facebook post that has the link to the hiring details. This is proof that she was forced out of a very nice job at Boston Public Schools where she was clearly disciplined for something she did. This is the only reason to leave and accept a way lower paying job at Cristo Rey (the salary difference is at least 50k lower or more).

Then by some miracle she was offered the job at D.C for Oyster Adams. And now I'm seeing staff morale there is low?

If all of the parents bring up this point to the D.C superintendents, then they will hear your voices. Parents are taken more seriously by the superintendent than teachers. Your school deserves a better principal.

Knowing nothing at all of Principal Brito beyond an openhouse visit.. She seems energetic, intelligent, vigilant and intent on weeding out those who dont align with what she wants for the school that shes running..which is clearly causing an issue with the disgruntled current teacher from the previous post.

The school seems well run, kids looked happy and she seems up to task imo.

DP. But just talking to someone at an open house visit will not tell you much about what is actually happening at the school.

I don’t give your experience much credibility at all.

Teachers definitely know much more what is going on and if there really is low morale, that is not good because it leads to high turnover and instability.

Sometimes it does.. sometimes it doesnt.. People oftentimes prefer leaving things as status quo simply because it benefits them. Unhappy teachers should find a situation that brings them happiness or escalate their issues and claims through the appropriate channels vs recruiting parents to impart themselves into a situation where they also have a very limited scope.

The fact that this hasnt occured.. should tell anyone reading through this thread what they need to know about the educator who made that previous post.

LOL! Are you new here? The appropriate channels don’t care and just want the principals to be their puppet to implement what they want and the big thing is their equity agenda.

There have been so many bad principals in DCPS over the years that were retained who should have been fired or let go. As long as you are a yes person, you are good.

And if the principal decides against being a puppet.. then they are presumably removed anyway for someone who would be.. similar to other notable positions in the country.. And a parent who likely has no experience in teaching, education policy or even the innerworkings of their school would have a role in removing a principal at the urging of a disgruntled teacher or 2.. why?

Also what is their "equity agenda" and why is it an issue?

not "a parent" but a collection of parents can force a superintendent's hand. Here's a simple tactic. Parents can threaten to remove kids from the school and go someplace else. Then the enrollment goes down and then the district has to make a choice if it's worth keeping the principal or not.

Of course they can.. and should.. if THEY deem it fit.. not because an anonymous staff members posts a vague posts rallying support on ousting a principal 2 years into the position..

Hi - I may be setting myself up to get flamed here, but I’m trying to understand the concerns about the principal or Oyster right now. My child has been there for a few years and, honestly, our experience has been very positive? I’m wondering if there is a major crisis happening that I’m unaware of that might affect families, or if different people are just having very different experiences.

apparently she is shady. I did look up what the disgruntled teacher claimed. You can see that Ana originally accepted a low paying job in some private school out in Wisconsin in 2024 before changing her mind to go to D.C. I did check salaries and it is correct; something fishy happened at her old job in Boston.

So what exactly does this have to do with the status and performance of the respected school the principal is running in 2026?

As another person pointed out, the staff morale is low. If it's low, they are likely to leave and get replaced by less experienced teachers. Do you not see an issue with that?

Sure? But what is the reasoning beyond "something shady happened in boston".. Shouldn't teachers be organizing to try to clarify their beefs? It sounds more like one or 2 teachers have a personal beef or were reprimanded in some way and are trying to create a vague narrative to parents to force out a principal without having to get directly involved if it doesnt go according to their plan. A principal who is by all accounts night and day better than the one prior (not the interim).

If kids arent happy.. Parents will address it.. If Parents arent happy.. They will address it.. If staff isnt happy.. they will need to find a way to address it and a common sense way to do that would be by talking to the principal directly whether in a staff meeting or one ones.

Fellow OA parent here. There are a couple repeated posters on here who are disgruntled and trying to start stuff. My kids are happy and thriving and I don’t know of any major drama or crisis of teacher morale in either of my kids’ grades. I’m not worried!

Obviously kids don't know what happens between teachers and admin...

I'm also very involved at the school and work with the teachers all the time and I have not heard anything related to what the PP is talking about. I'm not saying something couldn't be going on, but the tone of these posts and complaints sounds to me like someone with a personal beef. I just get frustrated with these posts because OA is a great school.

+1 adding it’s a large school with alot of teachers and admin that care deeply, so some cohort of that group is always unhappy about some element of the leadership. I don’t doubt there are issues, but it’s a good school.
