Coming of age trip -2k budget

Anonymous
I need to plan a trip for my son who is turning 13 in March and his Dad. The budget for flight and hotel is 2k and I am looking for no more than 3 nights. Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts? My son loves museums, seafood, science animals. Thanks!

13 is coming of age? Is this a Jewish thing?

Can you tie it to something of significance? Make it a service trip or visit a place to try out another language?

Chicago? Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, etc. might be chilly in March.

We have already visited Chicago and gone to these places. Otherwise, it would be perfect.

New York is on our list. I didn’t consider Philly. Thanks.

March is a rough time of year for weather in a lot of interesting places.

For cheap flights....how about Atlanta. Go to the big aquarium there.

If he would like classical Greek stuff maybe Nashville with its full size replica of the Parthenon.

There are nice restaurants and museums everywhere.

Southern California is a long way to go. But maybe you can find an affordable whale watching cruise. I have done whale tourism in Massachusetts and Maine in the summer. It's very interesting.

What about visiting San Francisco and the sealions?

Honestly Baltimore has a lot of cool stuff. The Aquarium, the Walters has Faberge eggs, and the Visionary Art Museum is fun and weird. There's also the Constellation warship.

These are all great ideas PP and are so much better than what I have been coming up with on my own. Thanks!

It will be cold, but Boston is the first place that came to mind.

OP, are you from DMV? DC sounds like it might fit the bill! 🙂

Cleveland has the Christmas Story house and Rock Hall which my teen loved and some good museums

The Henry Ford in Dearborn MI is an incredible place, and you can tour a real Ford factory while there. My tween loved it and you can easily spend 2 days there, can even drive in to Canada which might be cool.
You didn't mention sports but if your kid is a baseball fan Cooperstown is a great father/son trip
