With the holes in his plan, I honestly think that on a subconscious level, he was trying to sabotage himself. Or . . . maybe he really IS that stupid!

Why did he do it? Hate. He hates Trump and anything associated with him so much that he committed a series of crimes to make him, and his supporters, look bad.
It is evident from the letter he sent himself. It is evident from the hoax attack he planned. It is evident from his histrionic interview with Robin Roberts.
It was all about hate. And, he knew millions of Americans would believe him and agree with him, and ultimately support him because they are filled with hate as well.

Shame on all the hate-filled people on this site.

If Smollett hoaxed this then what Smollett did was clearly wrong. I won't dispute that whatsoever.

But what you are missing is that this tapped into a whole lot of pre-existing anger with Trump. And what you are missing is WHY millions of Americans are so angry with Trump, and that all of this pre-existing anger is very legitimate.

If you think people hate Trump for no good reason, you are completely clueless and tone-deaf.

And, what you don't get is that he KNEW this would be the reaction. He knew he wouldn't be questioned by the media or the Trump-haters because of the hate that has been so evident for the past two years.
Look - there was a lot I didn't like about Obama, or Clinton. But, I would never say I "hate" either of them. Obama, particularly, took actions which angered me and many Republicans. In fact, he did very little that I approved of. But, again, "hate" was not an emotion I would convey to any Democratic president.
I say that your feelings of hate ARE for no good reason. Disagree with him on policy - fine. Disagree with some of his rhetoric - fine. But, the hate is really over the top. Truly.
You don't think some of those Chicago PD are trump haters. Oh and my husband hates trump, despises trump, believes in reparations, and actively supports the BLM movement. As soon as I told him this Jussie story he looked at me like I was crazy and said "that makes no sense" and started asking me tons of questions I didn't have the answer to. We are an AA family.

A researcher at Cal State Bernadino who has tracked hate crimes over the last 3 years says that 48 of the approximately 21,000 hate crimes he identified were hoaxes. Hoaxes exist but are very rare

"He knew he wouldn't be questioned" - obviously very wrong at this point.

I vote as an independent but generally lean conservative, I still have belief that Jussie may be innocent. I'm not jumping to conclusions here. I think we don't know all the facts yet as they haven't been released. As a rape victim myself who was dragged through the mud, and as someone who has suffered from a racial attack, I think people should wait before vilifying him. I don't think TV shows should be doing that before the whole story is investigated and verified. Sometimes real life can be stranger than fiction.

Yes, wait for the attackers who broke his ribs and poured bleach over him to be invited to the white house.

Aren't you glad you are anonymous now?

Despite claims from Chicago PD, the brothers as persons of interest in the Jussie Smollett case told the grand jury they were paid $3500 because they were fitness training Jussie for an upcoming music video, NOT to attack him. Stay tuned for developing story.

Sounds like he's working hard on coming up with a good fairy tale. No surprises there - the left is all about blaming others.

It's a great excuse.

Pay them - by check (moron) - for their services, but pad the check for "extras."

not buying it . . .

He was too stupid to create a successful plan, and now he's lying his way out.

I don’t know. You’re name-calling and spewing insults. I guess capital L Libs could aspire to plummet to your level.

Of course NPR loves to report imagined hate crimes. Where is the actual study? How many of the allegations resulted in any actual charges?

Very few.
