You are willfully trying to cause smokescreen. Nobody cares about playing up. Its Aug birthdays playing down a grade thats the issue. |
It's in all the leagues best interest to have Aug birthdays play with their grade. ECNL doesn't want to work with a lower league that hands them a ball of tangled up Christmas lights. They want everything aligned and setup correctly before getting to them. Are you seriously this desperate to have your kid play down a grade? |
US Soccer picked 9/1 to reduce trapped players while trying to minimize misaligned players and maintaining a complete 12 month year age cutoff. US Soccer switched to 8/1 to reduce more trapped players while recognizing that August misaligned kids playing up is within the rules and maintaining a complete 12 month year age cutoff. |
What? My kid is an October I don't care. Last year she had 3 Aug birthdays on her team all in the correct grade a year above her. We all know clubs will make misaligned Aug birthdays play down. You can say choice all you want, but that just won't happen. The message of reducing misalignment went to reducing trapped. Knowing full well that only the unicorns will play up from the beginning. |
Are you seriously this desperate to have your kid play down a grade? |
I’m confused. Do people think there is some advantage to an August kid playing down a grade as opposed to an August kid playing on grade? |
Yes you are confused. Aug birthdays playing down (typically for wins at a younger age) causes problems when they get older. This is because college coaches wont know how to evaluate them because they're Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors playing against players a year younger than they are in school. What will happen is recruiters will just ignore the player and they'll get screwed out of playing in college. |
Why can't they play down a grade if the age cutoff is 8-1? That makes no sense. |
Come on, try an get with the program. |
Not enough August kids play in college for this to be a big enough problem to blow up the system for 10 year olds. Kids redshirt, kids transfer, whatever. Some August avoided being trapped though leaving BY which is a big win. |
OK if there's "Not enough August kids play in college for this to be a big enough problem" then making a rule that they cant play down (which we know ECNL will do) shouldn't be an issue. |
And welcome to 9/1+30 aka SY+30 |
August kids can play up, it just might 2nd teams instead of first teams. Bam, now August kids can play in college. Your dream fulfilled. With the effort that SY+ guy put into getting an edge for his daughter, he could have started his own league, made his own rules and merged with one of the other leagues by now. |
Yeah but this all depends on when the kid was supposed to go to school so as to not incentivize holdbacks. |
