It’s because ECNL showcases will be based off grad year so better as an August kid to stay with the same group/grade rather than play down a grade for league play then have to go up a grade for showcases.

But this just highlights how stupid the 8/1 guy is. Very few, 1 out of 12 birthdays (aug birthdays) will have the option of playing down.

It's funny because hard 8/1 cutoff guy is getting his butt handed to him + slowly realizing that his position is dunb.

They should go with 9/1 instead of 8/1 to avoid this.

Yes they should have. But here we are. Even if ECNL came up with that rule, which is doubtful most misaligned Aug players won't have that rule in the feeder systems.

It's in all the leagues best interest to have Aug birthdays play with their grade. ECNL doesn't want to work with a lower league that hands them a ball of tangled up Christmas lights. They want everything aligned and setup correctly before getting to them.

What? My kid is an October I don't care. Last year she had 3 Aug birthdays on her team all in the correct grade a year above her. We all know clubs will make misaligned Aug birthdays play down. You can say choice all you want, but that just won't happen. The message of reducing misalignment went to reducing trapped. Knowing full well that only the unicorns will play up from the beginning.

August kids can play up, it just might 2nd teams instead of first teams. Bam, now August kids can play in college. Your dream fulfilled.

With the effort that SY+ guy put into getting an edge for his daughter, he could have started his own league, made his own rules and merged with one of the other leagues by now.

Forcing some but not all August kids to play up would cause an up roar. I don't have an August kid but I don't hate August kids either. Crazy to only force August kids on grade and everyone else in there age range.

They didn't mention allowing anyone to play down with new SY rules or old SY rules. Only playing down allowed is in MLSN.

This is because college coaches wont know how to evaluate them because they're Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors playing against players a year younger than they are in school. What will happen is recruiters will just ignore the player and they'll get screwed out of playing in college.

So college coaches can’t read what year the players they are watching will graduate? How have they been evaluating the Aug - Dec trapped kids all these years?

With the cutoff being Aug, it allows those Aug kids to play up if they want or play “down.” Not sure what the problem is. If they’re good enough to be recruited in college (since you’re worried about the college coaches ability to read) then they can play up without any issues.

Also, making it sound as if an August kid playing down is some sort of huge advantage for the kids team because of their grade. That’s not the case and no more an advantage than having a team with a bunch of Jan kids.

To answer your question --- yes -- most college coaches cannot figure out when people will graduate and it makes trapped players have a tougher road. Of course they know once they have invested time in you but before that -- no.

League play and nationals will be based off a one year calendar no grad year . Showcases will be based off graduation year for U16-19.
