Are you a parent?

Yes I am.

Ok well I don’t want my kids “out of my hair.” At any rate, if you care about having kids in your hair, they are more likely to be if there’s a great distance between you house and the school. Think about having to leave work to get a sick kid from school. Or having to get them to school if they miss the bus. Or trying to figure out how they can do an after school activity that doesn’t start until 5.

Don’t even get me started on that. WJ had a student get hit a few years back crossing a busy road to get on a bus and I don’t think they ever changed the bus stop. Heartbreaking head injuries with life long impact. Horrible.

There are also going to be so many more teenage drivers with longer distances between home and school.

And more traffic.

And you know what? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, to advocate for their kids and communities and so on.

That’s the beauty of the First Anendment.

On cost alone I doubt they would adopt option 3.

Option 3 at least don’t have a lot of split articulations

Yes, Option 3 has many split articulations from MS to HS. Most middle schools split to 2, 3, or 4 high schools.

Oops, I was looking at the Crown Option 3. Sorry about that.

Look how they shoved the LGBTQ+ books in elementary years down our throats. Parent opinion? Doesn't matter. SCOTUS will smack them down pretty soon at least.

BOE will go with the most ridiculous option. Put your money on #3. Fools are in charge

But BOE and superintendent will probably listen to whatever budget they have. The options aren’t equal in the sense of budget.

Yes, and they can't afford to increase the number/distance of bus routes.

Overwhelmingly, WJ parents voted to reopen Woodward. WJ parents and students went to County Council meetings all decked out in Green to show support for funding for Woodward. We’ve filled out I don’t know how many surveys about Woodward.

Now it looks like MCPS may renege on that and send WJ families from Farmland, Garrett Park and KP to other parts of the county. That’s half of WJ.

No good deed shall go unpunished. Bait and switch.

Wow, this is just...wow. The entitlement in this post is staggering. WJ families are not entitled to anything more than other MCPS families. Wow.

I would agree with you, but I know how effective WJ cluster is - The WJ PTA cluster operates with corporate discipline. It's impressive. Westside parents are tired of having their magnet students on the bus to Blair every day. So this academic program analysis is very focused on travel time for students, to dovetail with this westside community point of view.

They are welcome to advocate but pretending they are specifically deserving of short bus rides over other families is disgusting

“The Superintendent may recommend one of the options from round 1, round 2, or a partially or entirely different option.”

lol so helpful!

Wow. This should be publicly posted and shame this ridiculous process

These WJ families would have the longest bus rides. I think you are missing the point here.

The time you have with your kids when you work is so very short. It would be heartbreaking to waste that time on a bus or sitting in traffic.
