The one complaint from the science teacher in the WaPo article should have been enough to not only prevent his promotion to PB but to put him on leave for a full investigation.

Seems odd she would be harrassed for so long and not request to be transferred to another school. 2019-2023 is a long time.

Are you serious? Are you a female?

It is normal to doubt yourself in this kind of a situation. Also normal to ignore bad behavior when you need to keep your job.

I said transfer not lose your job. This school was big on staff going out together and she was at every outing. I would not be at after work activities that are not required if I felt threatened.

Transfers arent guaranteed or as easy as people think. And don't victim blame here.

The school took it down after the news broke.

Guess who teachers need to speak on their behalf for a transfer (voluntary or involuntary)? I know for a fact he never returned phone calls or emails from a colleague that did get out. Thankfully they weren’t new to the system and the hiring principal called their previous principal. And look where he has buddies. He made it very clear he can do whatever he wanta

Easy to judge from the outside. He scolded us as a group and individually when we didn’t show up to social events.

So a principal “scolded” his staff for not going to happy hour? So everyone showed up with smiles? I am confused because these are all adults correct?

Great reporting from MoCo360! Keep putting a magnifying glass on MCPS leadership.

I don’t believe a word coming out of her mouth. How can you not comment before the investigation is complete? Makes me think she absolutely knew of these complaints and his reputation. Otherwise she would be saying how she had no idea and this investigation would determine missed steps in the process.

I wouldn't expect anybody who has ever held paid employment to be confused about this.

Since when is it a MCPS requirement to attend non work related events?

I’m not sure what you are referring to by asking similar questions over and over. Do you think because she went to these work events that she deserved the sexual harassment?

PPs have already explained that there was pressure to attend. There’s a power issue at work that creates an unbalanced dynamic.

Bigger question, why is a boss getting drunk around his employees then making sexual advances at them? Totally inappropriate behavior especially for a supervisor.

So don’t go to the events and go to work and do your job and go home.

These are not work events. Happy hour is not a work event. If you feel harassed why continue to go? There is no adult that will continue to attend non work events that feels harassed.

Courts generally view happy hours as extensions of the work environment, even more so when supervisors pressure subordinates to attend. Both the supervisor and the employer are likely to be liable for misconduct under these circumstances.
