| Random question: Does anyone know how many kids are in the lottery pools for the TPMS and Eastern magnet programs? Thanks! |
| Wouldn't it be all kids who are in the 85% percentile and above in 5th grade in their schools? |
Op here. Thanks for the response. I’m just wondering how many kids are meeting those criteria in a typical year, if anyone knows. |
By definition it would be the top 15 percent across the county, or maybe a bit more because those with accommodations only need to be in the top 25th percent. It is locally normed and not a national percentile. -DP |
I think there's a little over 10,000 kids per grade, so it would be a little over 1,500 kids, right? |
(I mean, a few of those might get removed from the pool based on the other criteria but I assume most of those in the top 15% will also have the grades, reading level, etc to qualify.) |

Your number 1500, whether this is correct or not, is upcounty (MLK, Clemente) and downcounty (TPMS, Eastern) combined.
Downcounty has more seats because there are more schools/students. |
| When do these lottery results come out? |
So how many are in the pool for TPMS? |
No one knows. We can tell you the general percentage, but the actual number in the pool will vary every year based on numbers in the grade and what makes up the top 15-20% of students. |
|
Which test(s) is this based on? MAP, MCAP? Fall, winter, or spring?
I have a 5th grader and have no idea. |
I think I read by Feb. at the latest. |
The pool is of the top 15%. There are around 12k students per grade, so 12k * 0.15 is the pool size. |
| That's a ridiculously large pool given that in the past only the top 100-120 students got offers. |
| How many seats are there? TPMS 100 EMS 100 MLKMS 50 RCMS 50 ? |
