someone must have clued them in that even if the president wants to they can't just point a finger and immediately "lay off" tenured civil servants. But anyone on probation can be let go at any time for no reason whatsoever.

Many of the retired age group are begging to be bought out by VERA, let’s start there instead of gutting all of the young grunt workers making the least amount of money.

You're thinking like a rational person. This would be a great strategy if the goal was to downsize a specific agency in an organized and orderly way that minimizes disruption to services. It's a terrible strategy if your goal is to do something that inflicts hurt on the federal workforce and makes for good twitter content.

That would take more than a week to accomplish and would piss off the low IQ MAGAs because they’d see it as government giving more money to someone besides themselves. Better to do something flashy and just fire random people en masse. The goal isn’t to save money. It’s to make a scene for the high school dropouts and put the fear of god in every federal worker who’s left.

“cut all federal workers who were hired in the last year”

So those who were hired within 2024 or in 2023?

Those who have less than a year on the job when the new administration decides to make its cuts. Basically new probationary employees still on probation as of the date the cuts become effective.

These comments from Republican lawmakers are enjoyably patronizing.

My agency did this first time around with Trump. Kinda sh*tty they called them performance based terminations but somehow they affected all the new employees.
