About how many pounds per month can one expect to lose on ozempic?

Also, does it curb appetite and eating less is what causes the weight loss, or does the ozempic directly cause weight loss?

It depends how much you have to lose and how quickly you want to lose.

I went low and "slow" equaling 1/2 to 1.5 pounds per week. Total loss 25 pounds in five months, taking me from obese to healthy BMI (I'm very short, and stayed on a low dose).

It depends on how much you have to lose, your eating habits, if you have any side effects etc.

I know someone who lost 50lb in like 3-4 months, I know someone who got so sick from the side effects they had to quit, and I know someone who barely felt it made a difference. I dont know any of their personal eating/exercise habits so there are likely various contributing factors to each outcome.

This is what google says about how it works:

It really depends on the person. How much you have to lose, your side effects, and the dosage. I’ve been on it for six weeks and lost about four pounds. I’m perfectly content with that and am staying at the lowest dosage. I’m only about 15 lbs overweight and just trying to get off some extra that won’t budge from perimenopause. I still track calories and exercise, it’s just how I’m seeing some results from it.
Generally they bump up the semi-glutide to the full dose over a period of four months. You don’t start at the full dose.

25 lbs in 3.5 months. I am pulling back now because this is the thinnest I have been in my adult life, and I don't want a gaunt face.

It really depends on the individual. Some people have instantaneous, dramatic results with the intro dose and others are much more gradual.

OP here. Thanks for this info. Follow up question based on these responses.

If ozempic works by curbing appetite, when people say it “stops working” as soon as you go off of it, I guess that means if they revert to old eating habits, the weight comes back, right?

basically yes. If you are used to never feeling hunger AND getting full really quickly, going off of it you can (not guaranteed) get a mass amt of cravings, eat like "normal" (keeping in mind your normal for the last X months has been miniscule), and not feeling full as quickly. It can definitely come back quickly.
If you stick to the same general portion sizes, foods, and exercise you can maintain, it's just harder to do it using your will power.

My husband has lost 20-25 pounds since early July but has been at a plateau for over a month and he's getting frustrated. He said that he doesn't have the same "feel fuller faster" feeling he had two months ago. He wants to lose another 10-15 pounds.

I've lost 45 lbs in a little under a year.

You just don't want to eat. At all. Some of it is do to a bit of a very manageable queasy feeling the first couple of days after I take it but I can say that I haven't overeaten or felt stuffed in a year. It's been great.

Also 'what' you eat matters. Things with lots of sugar are bad. Fried foods are bad. You won't want to eat them because they magnify the side effects. Eat your fiber, drink your water and enjoy.

I'm also a slow loser. I started in September and am down 16lbs. I'm ok with it as long as I'm trending down. This month has been tough and my appetite is coming back. I'm on 5mg and I may need to go up to 7.5.

How much does it cost out of pocket (if you don’t have diabetes) and which kind of doctor prescribes it? Need help for weight loss asap.

I lost 30 lbs in 5 months, and then have slowly been chipping away at a much slower rate since then. Down 43 lbs over 18 months. I don't eat a lot, but I am not exercising as hard as my coach wants me to and I would lose more if I did.

If I to stretch my doses, I can go almost 2 weeks before noticing the missed dose (typically you take 1/week) but at the 2 week mark I feel serious hunger pangs. If I were to come off of it I would regain at least a little; I think I could maintain a reasonable weight with a lot of willpower and careful meal planning (which are the tools I've used to lose weight in the past, it's just very hard).

I am one of the people who noticed an immediate change in "food noise" and worrying about when I will next eat. That was one of the issues with WW for me - the plan has you constantly talking about food and logging your food and just generally obsessing about food. On Wegovy, I don't care about food. I still have to plan meals, but now it's to ensure I'm getting enough protein. I never drank a lot of alcohol but now I don't want to drink at all, and I don't want fried food at all.

I would say you lose about 2-5 pounds a month.
