For example, Naomi Biden is currently pregnant, what type of not advertised benefits do VIPs in this area get (which I acknowledge isn’t a legit celebrity/ VIP but still made me wonder).
Are there any secret ways to make a normal persons birth better that we just are unaware we could be paying for? Like nicer hospital rooms etc? |
Serena Williams famously still had her pre-eclampsia symptoms ignored despite her raising concerns, so it's definitely not perfect even for celebrities. |
My SIL was given a private room with a great view, without having to ask, and was given champagne and steak after the birth. That's basically it. |
If you ask for the VIP room at GW, you can have it if it’s available. It was $150 a night I believe when I had my 2nd 8 years ago.
It was very spacious and had a nice view. I was able to order food any time I wanted from a special menu. They didn’t wake or disturb me as much over night. They sent us home with a giant potted peace lily. There were some hotel toiletries in the bathroom. It was still a hospital room. The linens were not nicer. The shade on the lamp was cracked and some of the blinds were broken. The food may have been a smidge better, but it was still very much hospital food. |
Didn't Beyoncé famously pay over $1M to keep the maternity ward all to herself? |
the postpartum room or the labor room? |
Postpartum, I asked one of my nurses about it but she said it was occupied. I did get a nicer room at GW post C section compared to my first when I had a vaginal delivery. Not sure if that was coincidence or being extra nice for the surgery recovery. |
Fwiw I think the GW labor rooms are already very nice. Not sure what more VIP would bring you. |
+1, I had a gorgeous L&D room at GW with a huge window and nice furniture (we have photos of DH rocking our newborn in this beautiful rocking chair right after birth). It was also huge, which I guess is necessary because if there are complications the room can get quite crowded. My recovery room was a shoebox and fairly miserable, though it did have a window. This was 2017 and I believe they renovated the recovery suite after that but I don't think the rooms got bigger. I have heard Sibley has nice recovery rooms. They used to do double occupancy for recovery which would suck, but I believe they are now single occupancy since their last update. A friend of mine had a baby there in 2015 and paid extra for a single occupancy room and I remember thinking how ridiculous it was she had to do that. I've been to Sibley for surgery (non OB-related) and to their ER and had really good experiences since then. If I were going to give birth again and wanted to be in DC, I'd choose Sibley over GW at this point. |
my L & D room at gw was also huge and postpartum room tiny-- but i can't imagine caring to pay extra for fancier hospital food (maybe because i have celiac) but would just rather get takeout-- was in the room less than 40 hours including two nights sleep |
Sibley has a VIP area, which I assume means bigger room, more secure and private area, maybe a different menu. I can’t think of what else a hospital could possibly offer. |
INOVA Fairfax lists their VIP options online: https://www.inova.org/our-services/inova-womens-services/childbirth-services/inova-womens-hospital-luxury-gifts |
Is it similar to GW where it can be purchased for a small fee? |
wow sparkling water! |
I've heard Sibley's VIP suite is really nice - $800/night. |
