| Which 2 or 3 schools among the top 25 would be considered to have the worst facilities and housing? |

DS stayed in the "worst" Brown dorm. It was fine. |
| My daughter is living in a double room with two other girls at Yale. It would be small for two but it’s a nightmare for three. So factor over-enrollment into this discussion. |
| Columbia is worse than Brown. |
| College of Charleston, particularly the freshman dorm. Housing crunch on the island. Go for Honors College if you can |

I think it really depends on the situation. I know people with kids in great dorms but they aren't on the main campus and the kids feel cut off.
I know people with kids right in the thick of things in the "good" dorms but without certain amenities (like a/c). But, they don't care because anything is worth being in the right place on the campus to them. |

There are some serious Columbia haters on this board. Columbia dorms are pretty decent.

Vanderbilt is anyone’s guess. You could get a brand new airy loft with 14-ft ceilings and gigantic windows, with laundry one floor down and TikTok worthy common areas
Or you could get a Soviet 8x9 foot box with black mold, no natural light and ceilings that close in on you. And laundry is across the quad (at the TikTok building) All for the same price! In a “random” lottery process |
| Beware of lists that are out of date. My kid is at George Washington University, and most of the dormsbuildings have been renovated recently. They all have central air. His room is spacious and comfortable, well-lit, with lots of windows. No complaints. |
Nicer than Yale for sure. |
This is typical of most Ivies, too. When I found out that some colleges differentiate housing prices based on how nice the dorms were, how much space you have, amenities, and location, I felt like a total chump. At my alma mater, famous actors or kids of famous people or politicians always happened to end up in the nicest housing by coincidence. |
