Where are some nice, quiet places to work or just get out of the house and read a book? We have some family staying with us for the holidays and I need to get away for extended periods of time, like a solid 5-6 hours some days. Are there any really nice public libraries around here that anyone likes the best? Thank you!
Edit: Anywhere in Northern Virginia please |
| Check into a hotel. You will thank yourself. |
😂 I wish!! I still have to come back here. I can manage to get away for a while but not the whole time |
| Go to a Library |
| Drive out to Shenandoah |
What’s out there? |
Which one? |
Nature
https://www.nps.gov/shen/index.htm It’s a place of solace. Quiet lunches, hike, set out a blanket work outdoors for a bit, etc Closer in you could go over to Great Falls. https://www.nps.gov/grfa/index.htm |

If you need 5-6 hours away from family every day, why bother having them stay over in the first place?
Asking because I’m the same and this is why I don’t invite people for overnight/extended stays over holidays. |
| Fancy hotel lobby. In most you can just go sit there and they won't mind, there's a clean bathroom, etc. Honestly, if you don't look homeless they won't kick you out. |
| Have you ever been in a library? |
Or to a National Park? WTF is this thread. |
| Try a college/university library. Check rules on public access before you go, but they generally have good wifi if you need to work. |
| Airbnb |
| Check with a friend who is going to be away. Offer to water plants/feed pets. |
