Holiday morning treats

Anonymous
I want to make some kind of breakfast treat for a post-Thanksgiving family tree-trimming day. In the past we've done cinnamon rolls and monkey bread, which both require prep the night before, as well as pancakes or waffles. All good options but I'm hoping to branch out a bit this year. What are your favorite morning treats for the holidays? Can be sweet or savory (I think DH would love a savory option actually). But just something that feels festive and special and are also crowd pleasers. I'm also looking ahead to Christmas and New Years so I'd love to have a few options in the queue (and enough time to try them out in advance if they are tricky).

I like scones. There are so many variations. I love cranberry orange, pumpkin, goat cheese bacon, date bleu cheese.

We do these for Thanksgiving and cinnamon rolls for Xmas: https://smittenkitchen.com/2013/11/cranberry-orange-breakfast-buns/ They're so pretty, and they smell amazing!!

I also like doing a sausage egg bake so there's a savory option: https://www.retrorecipebox.com/green-chile-egg-casserole/

I've been playing around with this recipe lately & like it quite a bit (get good proscuitto). I leave out the tomato (as with all NYT cooking recipes, read the comments for tips). Seems like you can make with mushrooms/spinach for a veggie option.

Popovers. Butter. Berry jam.

Follow Ina Garten’s recipe to a tee.

Same--but I haven't done savory ones, will have to try that!

My go-to recipe is the Epicurious cranberry orange scone recipe, and then I just change the fruit/zest depending on what's on hand. You can shape the scones and freeze, and I usually divide the dough into 2 balls before cutting so it makes smaller scones.

Agree on popovers; I use King Arthur Flour recipe.

I like these oat, berry, nut bakes and swap out some of the berries for cranberry sauce (leftover, homemade). My current recipe is from the nyt, but there seem to be 1000 out there.

My family likes French toast casserole.

For a savory option, this spinach/egg bake is great too:

We usually do the croissants from Trader Joes. Almond and chocolate.

Sohla's recipe on NYT cooking for a giant almond "croissant" using puff pastry is really easy and good.
You could also make individual almond croissants using good quality store bought butter croissants.

+1 to the Smitten Kitchen cranberry orange rolls and the TJs croissants.

These are also favorites:
