Good. Maybe now the school will cut the DEI crap and get back to actually educating.

Announced to students and families today by email? Willing to post?

Dear TJHSST Family:

Serving our amazing TJ community for the past seven years has been among the most rewarding experiences in my career. Therefore, it is with mixed emotions that I announce my departure as your principal. I have pursued and accepted a promotion to serve in the FCPS Department of Human Resources as the Executive Director of Talent Acquisition and Management.

Prior to arriving at TJ, I worked in California and Maryland in a variety of central office roles, including superintendent. I chose the principalship at TJ because it was the right time for me to reconnect directly with students, teachers, and parents in a school setting. I now look forward to returning to a district leadership role.

I have developed a deep fondness for TJ. Drawing from over 1,300 square miles of Northern Virginia, TJ is a home away from home where we build community and family. We celebrate our students’ achievements, honor our diversity, inspire STEM enthusiasts, and continually give back to others.

The community’s first priority when I arrived in 2017 was to strengthen the social and emotional health of our students. We engaged with a network of schools called Challenge Success and created three goals: decouple workload from rigor, manage expectations, and emphasize the importance of sleep. These tenets served us well over the years, particularly when we experienced a worldwide pandemic. Our unparalleled faculty and staff dedicated themselves to student wellness while finding innovative ways to deliver high quality educational experiences in a virtual environment.

Next, we navigated a change to TJ admissions as brought forward by FCPS leadership. Our school population has grown by more than 20 percent, now totaling over 2,100 scholars, more students than ever have access to a world-class education at TJ. Each and every student has earned their way to TJ and belongs in our school.

Finally, we have continued to innovate and achieve. Senior research labs are integrated and multidisciplinary, mirroring academic experiences in university settings. We have developed new courses such as Bioinformatics and Ethnic Studies. Faculty and support staff have garnered local and national awards. Our students are National Merit Scholars, ISEF and Regeneron awardees, national champions from Chess to academic Olympiads, and noted musicians and Cappies winners. Of course, because our students come for the sports, we are successful in athletic fields of play #wcfts! TJHSST has consistently been ranked #1 in Virginia, and we maintain a top stature among all high schools and STEM schools in the nation.

In the coming weeks, the FCPS Chief of Schools, Dr. Geovanny Ponce, will connect with the TJ faculty, staff, students, parents, and broader community to share next steps for the principal selection process, along with a timeline for my transition and leadership continuity for the school.

I am grateful to our entire TJ family for your partnership and support over the years. You have been a constant source of inspiration. We have all shared an unwavering commitment to educational excellence and the best interests of our student scholars. I consider my time with you a privilege and an honor. I am confident FCPS leadership will appoint a new principal that will bring TJ to the next level of greatness.

Always remember, TJ students are more than GPA and we are their GPS. We guide them on their journey and help them find their desired destination. They will fulfill the TJ mission and serve the betterment of humanity.

Fondly,

Dr. Ann N. Bonitatibus

Proud Principal

Or may be the new principal will double down. It is Reid who is going to go the hiring.

“ Always remember, TJ students are more than GPA and we are their GPS.”

She did a great job at taking TJ from #1 to 11

When you can’t demote them then promote them seems to be fcps policy.

It was down to 14, not 11. I was not a fan but until they announce a new person, I am not going to celebrate just yet. Sometimes, the devil you know....

Guessing AP Frank knew this was coming and what prompted his search and exit, but is anyone surprised that FCPS didn’t tap AP Frank to move into Principal role? With his tenure there, would that not have been a natural move?

It was #1 under them to more than once. Rankings go up and down all the time just ask Harvard.

Anyone think this has to do with the China schools data sharing for the China TJ schools as that was brought to attention again recently?

But it's only gone down ever since the admissions fiasco and that was under Dr. B's watch.

A lot of posts on this went up last week after FOIA requests with emails and such that all were deeply involved so maybe this is the fall out to that.

If not related to this, timing is too bad as lots of FOIA posts went up by sites like this so doesn’t help the speculation: https://defendinged.org/incidents/thomas-jefferson-high-school-provided-school-layouts-photos-of-classrooms-and-student-research-projects-to-china-affiliated-entities-in-exchange-for-millions-of-dollars/
