This was initially reported as a teacher but later confirmed to be a "staff member." Which makes me wonder if this was a special student and if the staff member was a paraeducator? Surprised this didn't get more buzz immediately on this forum. Usually DCUM is on top of this stuff! I guess the Germantown parents aren't as active here? |
Northwest has an SESES program (emotional disabilities) so that would be a reasonable guess. I can also 100% guarantee this wasn't the only MCPS staff member hit by something, bitten, kicked, whatever, etc. today. Not sure why this one made the news. |
So in other words, we should view this as normalized and not be concerned? |
Glad it made the news but this has become a regular occurrence in MCPS schools. |
Not at all. But usually MCPS sweeps everything under the rug and nothing gets out except for rumors. I'm VERY surprised that someone from the school shared so much information. They'll be disciplined, because MCPS Central Office tells them not to do that. |
It made the news because the staff member had difficulty breathing and parameds were called. We have local news outlets and independent reporters who monitor police calls, which is how it got coverage. For the incidents you're describing, I'm sure police/paramedics aren't called, which is why it stays under the radar. |
| I heard it was a principal intern that was struck. |
|
No! Pp you replied to. That's just it. I happen to know that the Principal and security officer of my kid's high school were assaulted by a student last year, and the security officer needed urgent medical care. And that's not to mention the sexual and physical assaults on students that go unreported by the media but that you can see in the MCPS report sheet they are required by law to publish every year. You'd be surprised how many there are, even at the elementary school level. |
The police and rescue were called (the victim went to the hospital), that's why. MCPS does cover up, but MCPD (police) and MCFRS (fire/rescue) do not. If you remember the alleged gang rape at Rockville HS a few years ago, that only came to light because MCPD issued a press release. MCPS up to then was silent on it, including to parents who had kids at that school. |
Yup. The thing is tho, MCPD sometimes goes along with MCPS's coverup game. So I always wonder what prompts them to go rogue from time to time and expose MCPS incidents when they do. |
| Teacher gets hurt, must be their own gault for violating security protocols. |
Yep they shouldn't have had their face hit the swinging laptop. Their bad. I'm sure this poor student will have a good timeout and study circle to think about what they did. |
| I think people need to understand the difference between a coverup and announcing something. If an incident happens and is handled appropriately, its not a coverup because the organization does not blast the incident out to everyone. |
Where can one find this MCPS report sheet? |
