SOURCE: https://moco360.media/2024/10/14/student-alleged-assault-teacher-laptop-northwest-high-school/
A Montgomery County Public Schools student allegedly assaulted a Northwest High School staff member by striking him in the head with a laptop Monday, according to police radio transmissions. Around 11:53 a.m. Monday, police responded to the report of an assault at the school at 13501 Richter Farm Road in Germantown, according to the transmissions. The dispatcher said the staff member, a 54-year-old man, was conscious but having trouble breathing after the alleged assault. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews also responded to the incident and the man was transported to a local hospital, according to Montgomery County Public Schools spokesperson Liliana Lopez. Following the incident, the student, 15, was taken to the school’s office and was with the school’s security staff, according to radio transmissions. Although police radio transmissions initially reported that a teacher had been struck, Lopez confirmed Monday afternoon that the student had struck a staff member with the laptop. She did not share any other details about the incident.
This was initially reported as a teacher but later confirmed to be a "staff member." Which makes me wonder if this was a special student and if the staff member was a paraeducator? Surprised this didn't get more buzz immediately on this forum. Usually DCUM is on top of this stuff! I guess the Germantown parents aren't as active here?
Northwest has an SESES program (emotional disabilities) so that would be a reasonable guess. I can also 100% guarantee this wasn't the only MCPS staff member hit by something, bitten, kicked, whatever, etc. today. Not sure why this one made the news.
So in other words, we should view this as normalized and not be concerned?
Not at all. But usually MCPS sweeps everything under the rug and nothing gets out except for rumors. I'm VERY surprised that someone from the school shared so much information. They'll be disciplined, because MCPS Central Office tells them not to do that.
It made the news because the staff member had difficulty breathing and parameds were called. We have local news outlets and independent reporters who monitor police calls, which is how it got coverage. For the incidents you're describing, I'm sure police/paramedics aren't called, which is why it stays under the radar.
No! Pp you replied to. That's just it. I happen to know that the Principal and security officer of my kid's high school were assaulted by a student last year, and the security officer needed urgent medical care. And that's not to mention the sexual and physical assaults on students that go unreported by the media but that you can see in the MCPS report sheet they are required by law to publish every year. You'd be surprised how many there are, even at the elementary school level.
Where can one find this MCPS report sheet?
