This news is so incredibly disturbing, especially after the football coach was arrested for soliciting an undercover cop posing as a teenager.
McLean Police District— Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have arrested a Langley High School Instructional Assistant after he was seen masturbating in a classroom. On October 11, during school hours, a School Resource Officer was notified by school administration that a student observed an instructional assistant masturbating in a classroom behind his desk. Detectives were notified and immediately began investigating. Preliminarily, detectives determined that David Scalea, 40, of Great Falls was in a classroom and began inappropriately touching himself underneath his desk. A student observed Scalea and immediately notified school administration. No students were physically harmed. On October 11, Scalea was arrested and charged with Obscene Sexual Display and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. Scalea was placed on administrative leave and has been an instructional assistant with Fairfax County Public Schools since 2020. He is currently being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. | Not at all to excuse this behavior, but it should be known that this staff member had a number of disabilities - according to his Facebook page he suffered a stroke in-utero and has not had a typical life. |

Meaning what exactly?? There’s not too much research out there, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that in utero strokes don’t inhibit one’s ability to not masturbate in front of students. |

This is what happens when parents get confused and think they control what happens in schools and seek to micromanage curricular and individual classrooms. The good teachers had enough and quit. So, we brought it on ourselves in recent years. We get what we deserve, and we deserved this. |

| I’m no fan of Langley but in this case it sounds like they were trying to help out a graduate with some developmental issues. The behavior may still be inappropriate but it’s not like the schools knew this would happen. |
