McLean Police District— Detectives from our Major Crimes Bureau have arrested a Langley High School Instructional Assistant after he was seen masturbating in a classroom.

On October 11, during school hours, a School Resource Officer was notified by school administration that a student observed an instructional assistant masturbating in a classroom behind his desk. Detectives were notified and immediately began investigating.

Preliminarily, detectives determined that David Scalea, 40, of Great Falls was in a classroom and began inappropriately touching himself underneath his desk. A student observed Scalea and immediately notified school administration. No students were physically harmed.

On October 11, Scalea was arrested and charged with Obscene Sexual Display and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. Scalea was placed on administrative leave and has been an instructional assistant with Fairfax County Public Schools since 2020. He is currently being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

This is disgusting.
FCPS should take a scrutiny on the staff recruiting and training process.

If he had no prior history there isn’t a way of knowing

He had no prior history, the Langley CS teacher and football coach also had no prior history. So there must be something wrong with with FCPS , or more specifically, Langley High? What made these two good men conduct shameful deeds after they become FCPS staff?

I’m sure they had lots of “history,” they were just never caught.

Just out of curiosity, I searched on google using "Fairfax teacher arrested". I am shocked to see more creepy teachers. I only read several cases happened in recent years. Comparing with an employer with the similar size, is it normal for FCPS to have this many children predators?

PP here; I contend he’s an unprofessional weirdo with anger issues. I posted about a strange encounter I had with him while I was driving into the front parking lot to substitute. He laid on his horn and caused a scene - and seemed to be oddly and irrationally upset that I was taking too long to park. I was shocked to discover he was a staff member. I was a substitute for years at practically every FCPS HS and had never had such an encounter.

Indeed predators go to where the prey is. My high school teammate, a top NCAA track athlete, always struck us as inappropriate. Our team had 9 guys compete in D1. He was the only one to go into education and coaching. He had a flashing habit/paraphilia which landed him in criminal trouble. The thing we thought was immaturity blossomed into a real problem. He was arrested in the early 90’s but escaped with findings of mistaken identity. Not so 10 years later where 5 separate instances caught up with him. He was only prosecuted on one case; a conviction was overturned on appeal. The English Dept head at a large school it was apparent he chose this career to further his habit. Made me much more wary of all teachers - not necessarily a rational thing.
