What do I wear? Nov Afternoon Wedding

Anonymous
What do I wear to a late November wedding in DC? It's an afternoon wedding, and the reception is cocktails and tapas. The couple are from other countries, they tend to dress very well so I am sure their guests, many of them coming from overseas, will be well-dressed too. I don't want to be overdressed, though, either.

What would be appropriate?

Why a nov DC wedding? Ugh

What do they wear in those other countries? If there's a type of outfit they typically wear on this occasion and you have something similar, wear that.

I have a day wedding in a few weeks. In my head, I think anything sparkle-y is out. I am opting for a navy dress, nice jewelry with neutral pumps.

I didn't ask. Maybe the plane fares are less expensive and they were trying to make it more affordable for their out of country guests? They both hail from Mediterranean countries, if that helps with what guests might be wearing. Of course there will also be lots of DC-area guests, so I am probably overthinking that aspect.

Agree nothing sparkly. I don't want to look like I am going to work and don't want to look like I am headed to a nightclub, either. It's hard to find the in-between!

I'm thinking not black, ether.

And then there is the whole shoe issue!!!

It seems to me you have pretty much got it -- finding the in-between actually isn't that hard. Tuckernuck has an "elevated day" section. Look through it for ideas to start. Some of it is too casual, but there is lots there that could work, depending on body type. And if it's too stuffy for you, just get an idea of what might be appropriate for afternoon and search other sites you like more.

Alternatively you could make an appointment to see a stylist at Nordstrom, especially if you have a big budget -- but I did that once and didn't have great luck with it.

People who look really elevated/rich/etc often look that way not only because of their clothing, but their grooming. Bear that in mind. Make sure your hair/makeup/nails/eyebrows/etc is on point. Also, styling -- the clothes matter, but the styling (shoes, jewelry, bag, hair etc) are what makes it work.

I really love this dress. But given the off-the-shoulder style and satin fabric, it might be more appropriate for evening as opposed to day.

Is the venue a restaurant?

+1
Love the dress, but not for a day wedding in Nov.

Here's what I need to know

1- afternoon like 12 or 4?
2- venue - you said tapas- is it a restaurant?
3- your age
4- body type

I'd wear a DVF cashmere wrap dress in burgundy. Nude patent pumps (CL Miss Sabs) and pearl earrings or maybe simple gold ones.
