I have been weight lifting and running but had to stop due to an injured back. I haven’t done lifted weights since July and haven’t run in the past 3 weeks. I have lost 7 pounds since July. I assume it’s all muscle?
I don’t eat a ton - no breakfast and lately rarely have a full dinner. Lots of water and very little alcohol. I do walk around 7 miles a day. |
Most people would lose weight if they are eating 1.5 meals per day and walking 7 miles. |
Muscle weighs more than fat. |
No, a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat. |
Yes, of course. I think what first poster was referring to is that muscle is denser than fat. A pound of muscle is leaner than a pound of fat and takes up less space in the body. OP if you’ve stopped intense cardio but still walking more than 10k steps daily it makes sense you’d lose weight. Intense cardio usually drives higher calorie consumption. Walking is moderate exercise which doesn’t drive higher calorie consumption. You are eating moderately and getting substantive steps in so that would drive some weight loss. Whether it’s muscle loss too might depend on whether you had much body fat to lose. |
Muscle is slightly denser but not that much denser. Have you bought 1lb of pork belly vs lb of chicken? |
Op - I am 5’7” and was weighing 150. Now I am 143. |
It could be a myriad of things. When you stop working out, lifting weights and/or running, your muscles have time to repair themselves. Less inflammation means you will see a decrease in water weight. You could also be experiencing sarcopenia. Either way, muscle keeps your bones strong so I would make a plan to at least work body parts to stave off more loss. |
Exercise (no matter the type) always raises my hunger levels. So this doesn’t surprise me. |
Try to gradually get back into a routine. Weightlifting and cardio have important benefits beyond weight management. |
You are not eating and walking 7 miles a day. Are you slow? |
Yes, you lost muscle, more than 7 pounds of it also, as you would have gained some fat in the meantime as well. Example - you lost around 15 pounds of muscle mass and gained 8 pounds of fat, so the scale reads just 7 pounds less. You need to eat more. Alcohol is fine, just not with meals. You walk too much also. Try speed walking 2-3 miles instead. |
Male or female? |
You’re significantly denser than both. |
Why do you not eat meals? That's not healthy. |
