S/o Does quality sleep ever return without intervention

I will be 52 in a few months and sleep got unusually bad maybe starting in July. I have taken Larin 120 for over a year, Junel Fe before that to help with peri (and it did) and due to family history of ovarian cancer in some over 70. There are quite a few signs I am late stage peri moving toward menopause including 1 good one-no longer have dense breasts as per mammograms the past few years.

The only way lately I can get a little more sleep is with Tylenol pm or Benadryl, but still not enough. Life is no more stressful than it has been for the past 9 sandwich generation years. In fact, most of those years have been far worse and the impact on sleep was nothing like this. Does menopause bring better sleep???

A magnesium supplement before bed, not eating after 8 pm and increased exercise have made a huge difference for me.

Darn. I already do those things. I don't eat past 6:30 due to reflux, exercise every morning and take magnesium daily. Tried moving it later and it did nothing.

OP, don't take Benadryl! Links to cognitive decline.

OP here. I know, but there are also links to cognitive decline if I don't get much sleep. I plan to talk to my ob. She's really hard to get in to see, but at least I am scheduled in a few months!

No! Post menopausal sleep is from hell for many women. I’ve tried everything under the sun from melatonin to cbd gummies, to off label seizure drugs from the neurologist, to Benadryl to Nyquil severe cold and flu. Those either did nothing or made me feel hungover the next day. Nothing was working and I was miserable!!! Went to GYN got the patch and had the best sleep I’ve had in years after only having it on for 2 hours. Stop the Benadryl and visit your GYN to figure out what’s right for you. Good luck.

My sleep got better.

I still will occasionally have bad weeks—I assume my hormones are still cycling from time to time, but on the whole I’m sleeping much better.

Not for me. I was always a champion sleeper and have excellent sleep hygiene. Menopause ended that. Like 6:32, I did all that I could to improve my sleep quality. It wasn't until I started HRT that it got better.

Mine did, I didn’t do anything. I don’t take hey or any supplement. I do try to eat TBSP ground flaxseed and soy protein (tofu, edamame, soy milk) every day though. The flaxseed may be helping? I wasn’t doing it all summer and restarted August and sleep had been great and uninterrupted.
