Dave is not a very good coach. However, he is a great club director. He will do anything to get your kid recruited to play in college. This also includes poaching kids from other clubs (as long as they are good enough to play in college). Look at his results that past 2 recruiting cycles. He is no different than CM other than he had a good reputation (prior to 3 years ago) when he tried to do things the right way. Now, it's all about recruiting and getting kids to the next level. I don't have any bones to pick with DM, in fact, he helped my kid get into a top D1 program. Would my son have played D1... yes... but probably not at current level. |
This is too reasonable for these boards! With the size of NL and increasingly complex management demands of a big club - including all the pre-high school teams - we probably won't see club directors being successful high school coaches. I'm with you, let's appreciate DM for what he does for the area club scene. |
These last few takes are the right ones. DM is a nice guy and an excellent recruiter. Not a great tactical coach. His teams win but recruiting superior athletes rather than internal development. His rival CM is similar but many people find him annoying on a personal level. I agree. |
People find CM more than annoying on a personal level. |
I’ll take DM over CM any day of the week.
CM is a better coach. DM is a better mentor / coach. |
DM just doesn’t have a history of highly public insane meltdowns like CM does. As someone said previously, basically pick your poison. |
His ig still says assistant at DM. |
We are only 2-3 weeks from the start of 2024 Spring Season.
Lots of questions and schedules are out lets go! 1. Prep - Who do they board to help at X, who do they start to replace the BBQ and NK, will they introduce the 2026 attack from NL to the IAC? 2. SJC - Does the 2026 or 2025 get the start in the goal, does UVA commit play or rest/heal and does the defense step up? 3. Landon - Does coaching improve to take advantage of a talented and deep 2024 senior class? They have a few 2025 and 2026 players that should see lots of time this year. 4. Bullis - Departure of very good attacks that had a trouble with the absence of Princeton commit out for most of the season. This team struggled all year long. Will be strong in the goal and will bring another 3 talented attacks to replace the outgoing group with the #3 attack in the country. Defense should be same or better and midfield play will be up in the air. Will be a great at the X. Lost an assistant coach as well. 5. Gonzaga - has all the talent in the world but the program has a serious discipline problem and can't stay focused for an entire season. Does coaching improve on Eye Street. 6. PVI - Panthers have a terrible 2025 class and a large and talented 2026. The should be fine in the goal with an experienced 2025 and a good 2026 goalie. This team has a swiss army knife with 2025 LSM that also plays SSDM. They have a young team and new coach does that change things in South Riding. 7. EHS - a dark horse in the IAC and young team. 8. OLGC - also a young team and few new transfers but well coached. 9. SSSAS - the Saints didn't graduate any studs from their 2023 class. 10. St Albans - we shall see if they reload what was the best team they have had ever. Not likely but will play hard and will do well at the X and has a gritty attackman. 11. DeMatha - DM steps down and will assist. So will the new coach change things up some. Don't think they contend for a WCAC championship but will steal one or two wins from teams that take them lightly. Please share your opinions! |
Thanks for sharing! 1. Prep's strength will really be based on how many new boarders showed up this summer and Fall. Defensively the Hoyas should be very strong. Graduating the dynamic attack duo of Burns and Kabari will be extremely tough. 2. Don't count the Cadets out as Speaks is arguably the best coach in the area. SJC is snake bite right now with some injuries, Duenkel most notably. will he return for the WCAC playoffs? 3. Landon returns practically their entire team from last Spring. Coaching is suspect at Wilson Lane. Bears have the athletes to run with most teams this Spring. 4. Bullis underachieved last year but has an exceptional 2025 class on the horizon. Expect the Bulldogs to be much more in sync come IAC playoff time as the junior will gradually adapt to the spotlight. 5. Eagles have the horses to run with any team in the area. Coaching is average and discipline continues to a distraction. 6. St Stephens - the entire team returns from last season. Saints are very well coached. 7. PVI - Panthers graduated an excellent senior class in 2023, too much instability at the coaching ranks. 8. EHS - always well coached, however graduated an elite goalie and UVA attack man. Expect the Maroon to drop off from last year's team, the Duke keeper last year, kept the Maroon in several contests alone. 9. STA - despite the loss of the 2023 team, I'm going out on a limb and will predict the Bulldogs will be better this Spring than last year. The 2023 senior bulldog squad completely underachieved for all of the hype. 10. Good Counsel - Dane Smith in now his 2nd year in Olney, added in some transfers this off-season. Would be a huge step for the program if they can make it to the WCAC semi-finals. |
Injuries, goalie play, and face-off success will determine which team plays for a championship in May! |
OR whoever scores more goals than their opponent. |
GP remains on top with the 26 and returning attack being a year older. The rest of the team remains really solid. SJC will have a really tough first 5 games and now it looks like D and D will be out for most if not all of the year so they can go to college healthy. Landon has good coaching and over-performed last year with an extremely under-sized lineup. IAC is weak this year so they might get back to the final. Bullis really under-performed and most are picking them 3rd. They will end up 2nd if the 25's mature and are as good as they think they are. GZ needs a full time coach on staff. SJC and GP are taking all their depth. PVI drops with the change of campus and lax players not willing to travel along with the coaching changes. EHS is always competitive. OLGC is at least 2 years away. Look for Smith to jump again bc that's what he does. SSAS will battle STA for 4th in the iac. STA has no depth but the coach steals a nice win every year. DM wasn't smart enough to realize DM wasn't a permanent solution. Perhaps the new coach figures out to recruit AA and Howard and ignore the DC area. |
GZ has the best roster and I would not be surprised to see them finish first in the DMV but also issues so not surprised to see them fifth.
SSSAS is better than EHS who graduated a UVA A and Duke Goalie SSSAS is the best in VA. Landon needs to get it done this year with the 24 class. PVI location is a non factor. Last season they were third in the DMV with a roster that was local and they had mostly Loudoun players. The coaching is only an upgrade but they lost a lot. Prep should be the top team as SJC lost a lot but losing their best 24 may be too much. Last take: Coaching is way over rated. This year will prove this when SJC is losing games in the DMV. Speaks is a great recruiter that is how he won in the past. |
Hahah. Coaching is way over rated? Sure… Go ask your GZ and IAC buddies about that. |
Exactly! Lets not forget this SAME Gonzaga staff lost to a 5A PUBLIC SCHOOL from Boondocks Podunk VA, less then 2 years ago. At home. |
