He wanted to coach at a better school than the heights. Realized that he couldn’t get enough talent / NL kids to go to Dematha. Realized that club is his future and wanted to get a position with a school where he could use their fields.

Doesnt DCE and BLC practice primarily at Bullis these days?

Didn't realize just how much of a PIA it is to get around the beltway and how much time DM required and how much it took away from his growing family.

That could easily change now that Anzelone's son is done with club. It's also not like Bullis doesn't have enough field space to accomodate the 2.

I'm not necessary "buying" that having a club team practice on your home field / at your high school has a direct correlation to sustained success.

Look at Gonzaga for example, its not like any area club lax program claims to call Gonzaga as their home operations and Eagles for the most part has been viewed as an elite program for 10 years.

Next Level has been practicing at both STA and the Heights for the past few years, and these programs aren't considered juggernauts.

I wonder what’s taking them so long to make the announcement

GZ has one field. There’s no opportunity to host a club in a field sports desert. There’d have to be a concerted charitable effort to get anyone interested in trying.

You are missing the point. Gonzaga historically has had a great program the past 10+ years and has zero affiliation with a club lax program. I'm aware, its logistically impossible for a club program to get access to their one turf field (its also a nightmare getting down to GZ around 5PM when MS club teams generally have practice on weekdays).

Whether Mitchell is coaching varsity or jv at Bullis, and NL moves its operations to Bullis, I don't see the NL kids who are currently at Landon or Gonzaga or GP or SJC etc. etc following their fearless leader to Bullis.

I think it is more about getting access to Bullis fields for NL practices, than it is getting boys from NL to transfer to Bullis.

This. It's not about making the <pick your high school> better. It's about getting access to field time and getting that access for either free or at a discounted rate so that the club makes more money.

Speaks is definitely known for poaching - or attempting to - via aggressive over recruiting. If your son makes the switch, you won’t know if it was worth it until a) he gets into a better college than he would have without lacrosse but also b) he is able to do the work at said college because he was properly prepared in high school.

Dave Mitchell is a snake in the grass. People mistake his teeth for a smile but they are actually fangs.

Fell better now?
Just in case anyone is new to this thread, make sure you ask around to people who really know DM and not just these cowards who anonymously trash him.

my perspective on Dave.

DM runs a top notch club program. To remain at the elite level, you kinda have to be ruthless to some degree. You are delusional not to think politics, cut-throat tactics."guest players" etc. don't transpire with the Hawks, Crabs Team 91, name any other club program etc.

Dave is a "decent" HS coach when it comes to X's and O's. While his team at the Heights, the Cav's never once cracked the top 4 of the WCAC. At the same time, his short tenure with DeMatha did nothing to elevate the Stags program. In his defense, its extremely difficult to focus on both your HS and Club program, excel in both as their will be various conflict of interests.

Dave is an exceptional club lacrosse director, nothing more, nothing less.
