I am 50 and never watched this while it was on TV. I binged on Netflix and man, I loved it.
I love that nobody is perfect on this show and everyone did some shitty things. I love that while the plot may not always ring true. The stories of the characters are so good. It's real people who I can fall in love with. I wonder if I would have appreciated it when I was younger? I really appreciate the relationship of ups and downs of Tami and Coach and how their marriage is portrayed. I'm married and have 2 kids now and I can really identify with their lives. I love the perspective of some who relish small town life v more opportunities outside that environment. I think when I was younger I only gravitated toward the latter option. As I've aged, I can respect how some may find that kind of small town life awesome. I don't know that I'm personally like that but it's a perspective that's interesting to watch on this show. Really highly suggest it. I love Succession, Vampire Diaries/Buffy, Mad Men, ER, Sopranos, West Wing too but something about FNL is absolutely breath taking. Especially in this day and age, it's not about just 1 person or a couple or a specific direction/situation/thing, but a community and a way of life. I'm not a football person but I really enjoyed this show regardless. I never read the book but liked the movie. I think it's the only story that put forth a successful book, movie and show! |
| I wish you'd done a search and then posted in the already-existing thread about this show. |
| I keep trying to get into it. Let me try again. |
| Watched it years ago and still think about it. Clear eyes, full hearts! |
| Texas forever. |
| I watched it 2X. Love all the chararacters. |

It is really one of the best shows ever. Beautiful writing.
I just binged it for the third time recently. |
| I grew up in Texas, although not in a small town. My favorite part of the show was Matt Saracen and his grandmother. She reminded me so much of my own grandmother who was from a small town. Kyle Chandler and all of the town locals really nailed their parts, too. Everything about it was excellent - cinematography, dialogue, and soundtrack. |

Best show ever. I've watched it twice. I love Tim Riggins!!! And i love coach and tammy.
I couldn't stand Julie. |
I agree. I really liked it and I hate football. |

It was a great show because so much was improvised. It felt real. Good actors, good directors, and good editing. And good characters.
So much better than shows like Dawsons Creek that feel so fake. |
| I’m not a football person or a small town person but damn, that show was well done. |

Two words:
Tim Riggins. |
| Agreed. Such a great show, and so well done. The first time I saw Kyle Chandler was in Grey's Anatomy when he played the bomb retrieval guy. SO powerful there. Then he shows up on Friday Night Lights. I grew up in the world of the book Friday Night Lights and couldn't read the book or watch the movie. But by the time the TV show had arrived, I was far enough away from that world. Loved the TV show. |
| Kyle Chandler is my fictional husband. I love that man. |
