“Total exceeds 100% as students may indicate more than one option.“

One way to look at it is less picked bi or multi racial. Insteading of picking Asian + black or Asian + Hispanic the applicant picked Asian only.

This data got DC to now upend her college list and is now trying for HBCUs. At first I was upset that she’d throw away any shot with her great stats, but I now worry deeply about the discrimination she will experience in these environments where black students are a growing rarity. Spelman is her next stop.

If your DC got great stats and is competitive, why not apply and have options?

It’s really her decision. She grew up in majority white and Asian environments and is becoming exasperated from the constant “proving” she has to do. I think she just wants a break and time in community, and I won’t take that from her just because I want something different for her future

Probably a good call. Our child is a sophomore at a lac and the students are completely turned off by the upcoming class, because they’re so Asian compared to previous classes.

Why does this matter? Asians are people of color too and do not discriminate against blacks like white people

oh my gosh best laugh of the day!!! THANKS! 😂😂😂😂

You’re going to let your child go to a failing school, because her feelings are ill get hurt if there’s more than 3 or so Asian students in the room? How incredibly racist and backwards

Spelman is pretty far from a failing school. You can’t both complain that black students are taking up space and that they aren’t choosing elite schools. What the hell is wrong with people?

And not sure what they did with the many that checked no boxes.

None of the white kids at our HS checked race on school app or common app. No idea what category he is on that data. Did they just guess by his name ?

There’s forms asking for your race almost everywhere in college. They get the info

DC just finished orientation and found a handful of black students. Let’s just say she’s clawing to hit the transfer button. It’s great that some students will have more options to be with their community, but this is not the environment for her

Why does she need to be “with her community” to study and go to class? Plenty of white students every year studying without their tribe

Why not just turn all university leadership Asian and just cede everything else? It’s clear that colleges no longer care about diversity, multiculturalism, or any American values. Institute the gaokao if they want.

Some people care a ton about community. When I go to DC’s campus, everything is about boba and ramen offerings by clubs and clearly Asians find a lot of community on college campuses
