Last winter I had a non sports-related health issue that took me away from the gym for most of the winter and spring. This summer, I attempted to get back into it, but because of time constraints with kids home for summer/camp schedules, I only had a short window every day, so I was doing a quick weightlifting routine every single day. And I got so bored of it and completely lost motivation.
With kids going back to school I want to get on a better routine that won’t cause me burn out. I can commit to two hours, three days a week. But will I even make any progress with such an infrequent routine? |
That’s a TON of time for resistance training. The issue is not the amount of time you have but developing workouts that will progress and you won’t get bored of. |
There are like 5000 insta influencers who make tons of cash peddling the same basic workout routine.
It is not that hard, decent weight training regimen 4-6 times a week for 30-45 minutes and HIIT 2-3 times a week for like 20 minutes. Eat moderately healthy and limit carbs, cut alcohol and anyone without some disorder can get in shape. Like 60.-90 days you will see results. You do not need (or want) two hours in the gym in a day. 6 hours in a week of solid exercise with decent diet should be enough to see results. |
Thanks! I feel like I’m doing nothing if I don’t go five days a week, even if it burns me out to the point I don’t even want to go! |
Honestly, I know myself, and I WOULD rather commit two hours MWF than 30 minutes every single day. I tried it and gave up this summer! |
Here is what helped me. I was fed up with my diet and body in early June so I cut carbs except those in berries and some whole grains ( occasional whole wheat wrap or oatmeal once or twice a week). Lots of vegetables, lean meats, some cheeses and dairy. Upped the fiber and protein and cut out junk and any added sugars, alcohol occasionally but only mixed with club soda, no beer or wine. I will eat raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. I joined orange theory and go to the 2G class 3 times a week and the strength classes 4 days. I double up the classes twice a week to for it in and have some rest days. I lost weight and 3 inches off my waist and look much fitter. Feel so much stronger too! |
