I cannot put my name on this because I have professional reputation in the area. I don't like all the anonymous accusations here because no one can then judge if its informed opinion or a monkey tossing his own sheet. Additionally my family is not yet out of this whole exploitative relationship and I trust no one to act in good faith.
First I'm sorry to hear the constant frustration from families as they come here for information or solace for their grievances. Sadly the boys/girls league and clubs and the college coaches act in alignment to get your money. and fewer clubs in the area only strengthen the hands of these people to be unaccountable. Second I only share this because families need to understand who runs this club and not misunderstand their coach's role on all this - the coach decides playing time and not much else so if the "bad team culture" or "bad communication" or "broken promises" is your beef make sure you place accountability on the actual club leadership. Third for families entering the recruitment phase also don't misunderstand these ASA adults who are taking money from your family to pay their mortgages care at all about your kid. They will promote your kid success for the club benefit and ignore your kid if there are struggles. If your kids goal is to play soccer in college at ASA or elsewhere good luck to you; if you're kid is not actually playing at highest level and you are paying and college recruitment is not a realistic goal I'd suggest you find another way to spend your kids time and your money. These people want your money and will keep you on the hook any way possible. Youth sports has become an industrial complex catering to people with money that exists to employ a bunch of adults. It's ruined youth sports and is not at all set up to benefit kids. This is not news at all. It sucks. But not news. |

I think the point is a bunch of people are making a decent living off youth soccer. And their interests and priorities align with keeping kids signed up to pay their salaries. This is true of a lot of youth-based activities these days.
Most of us grew up in the era of mostly volunteer-led rec sports and the focus was on school sports and good athletes didn't specialize and played 3 seasons of sports. Yes, that was much better for everyone. But there's no going back OP. Not sure what your point is here. |

I agree. These aren't outrageous salaries at all, considering the cost of living in the area. Alexandria Soccer Association pays much more to its ED, and its revenues are lower. |

Quick look over Arlington has 1132 players that received $275,178 financial assistance which is about 3.5% of its total revenue.
Is this a good #? But I'm glad that 1132 players received the financial aids. I always wonder how many kids are actually benefit from it. |
