Most popular and/or unusual thing you pack in your kids’ lunches

I’m running out of ideas and would love to hear what your kids love and/or what you pack that you think other people might not have considered.

Corn on the cob is a big lunch time hit with my kids. In the summer, they used to do outdoor camps and I'd send it unshucked. If I was sending it to school, I'd shuck it because no one wants silk flying around the cafeteria.

For some reason, one of my kids liked sandwiches made with whole grain waffles for a long time.

My kid loves going to asian grocery stores and getting steamed buns for their lunch boxes. Also loves stir fry noodles in a thermos and oddly loves these puff seitan things from the asian grocer.

I made a pesto pasta salad this week that she loved - whole wheat fusilli, homemade pesto, cherry tomatoes, fresh mozz balls and arugula. Though she did ask if it could be spinach instead of arugala next time.

Dim sum, dolmas, falafel.

What? You send uncooked corn to camp for lunch? Are you a troll or are you crazy?

No, I microwave it in the husk, and then they husk it at camp.

One kid loves edamame in the shell.

Meatballs, cold. Cooked chicken breast.

Not that unusual though.

Black olives, cold pizza, bagel and lox, love the kid eating waffle sandwiches. I think one of my kids would like that.

the hazelnut (Nutella) flavored crepes individually packed and sold thru Costco

the tiny bite sized red, yellow and orange bell peppers from Safeway/Giant produce section

these may not be unusual but they're easy!

Oh, this is how I serve it at home. I’m not sure what happens if it’s cold, but when it’s warm, all of the silk and husk comes off in one pull.

Pickled eggs. They're hardboiled and pickled in beet juice so they're purple. It's an ethnic food my kids love.

Funny story- the other moms came up to me and just had to know how I made my eggs purple for my DD. They thought I was dyeing eggs for lunches and their DDs were jealous and asked for it too. I said I'd send in extra eggs if their DDs would like to try, but I didn't think they'd like them.

DD loves a pickle in her lunch.

Japanese curry, yakisoba, kimchi... it's amazing what my kids have access to. When I was a kid, my Japanese father made me sandwiches! We had no access to Asian groceries.

When dd was in ES, I'd use cookie cutters on her sandwiches, making hearts or mittens or bunnies. I'd include the rest of the sandwich as well. Always some fresh fruit. Could be a peeled halo, grapes, or cut up strawberries, blueberries, always something fresh
