Protests around Netanyahu visit

I also agree that Bibi is a war criminal but I’m afraid things are going to get violent and ugly around DC this week. Is anyone else worried?

No, authorities are fully aware of the risks and have preempted it by a huge security apparatus. What's going to be ugly is the traffic!

Who cares. Just don't go there.

Some of us have to go to work and live in DC.

Not worried (and I work downtown and sometimes commute past the Israeli embassy). It's not like this is the first time there's been a protest on the Mall or near the Capitol.

I was just told I have a meeting in Longworth House Office building late afternoon on Wednesday. Am I going to have trouble getting there (by cab/Uber) from the Gallery Place area?

I just wish I had a heads up about Rock Creek being shut down completely at the Watergate. The 15-foot fences were in place at the morning rush hour. I’ve seen the fences up at the Capitol and around the Convention Center during big summits. But never around the Watergate.

I also hope there are huge protests. That man is a war criminal.

They posted about it on all the local news outlets

No. Of course, a war criminal is visiting in midst of a horrible genocide, there should be protests but hopefully peaceful and impactful.

You’re going to have trouble getting in the building. We got an email all guests have to have a staff escort from the door. Only staff with ID can enter. I’d suggest reaching out to your hill POC.

Oh the irony of this statement.

I'm worried enough that I will probably stay home on Wednesday.

(Asked Jeff to take down the other version)

There was something in the Washington Post article months ago about the GW encampments — MPD didn’t break it up (at the time) because they were managing fine and from their analysis and deep experience managing the (many) DC protests/“1A
Events.” Pretty big contrast to how the NYPD was acting at the same time. That has stayed with me.

I know they aren’t perfect (the kettling and the other massive issues around the George Floyd protests come to mind, but I do *not* hold Jan 6 as a failure) but I do have high confidence that MPD can manage even large protests for Netanyahu’s visit.

I might be wrong but I’m not worried about it.

The masked protestors vandalized some buildings and burned an American flag.
