Swim coaches at SR, HA, and NCS/St A’s involved in lifeguarding scandal

Sounds like they charged a bunch of money and didn’t deliver what they should have. Wondering if there will be consequences beyond what the Red Cross has done.

Most shocking is that the article says multiple coaches from STA/NCS, Holton, and Stone Ridge were present either as an instructor of record or “in a support role” but only some are being reprimanded for this by Red Cross.

STA/NCS, Holton Arms and Stone Ridge should bench all of the coaches. This is inexcusable and puts children at risk. What were these coaches thinking? This is not just a minor lapse in judgment. Heads should roll.

This article is overblown- there was a disgruntled employee who called the Red Cross and alleged that two instructors were providing substandard classes despite the fact that these instructors have been providing classes for decades and producing refectory good lifeguards.

What the article probably doesn’t cover is that this employee was passed over for a job by one of the coaches and was out for blood- lied to the RC and to the Washington Post. I am actually surprised this got covered so sloppily tbh

Most people don’t want 16 year olds with only 6 hours of training lifeguarding at any pool their kid swims in. Article says no in pool training on emergency rescue scenarios too!

These instructors and their schools are lucky the Red Cross stepped in when they did.

There was no test, acc to the student. Even I know there is an in-water test for certification.

There was a test. And there was re-certification for all of them with a test. The article is incorrect. I am amazed all of you believe everything you read. Or perhaps you get your news from Truth Social as well? Would be par for the course for the dcurbanmom crowd lol

So the kid lied?

There was a post about this here last month. I wonder if this was the student interviewed?

Just FYI for all of you- this certification course has been running for many many years (20? 30?) and a huge number of the lifeguards in the area are and were certified there. Think about the last time you heard about a lifeguard who was so under-trained/certified that it was a huge issue. I can’t think of any. I know a few who were fired for things unrelated to their certification (ie not showing up etc)

So this group of instructors has been endangering the lives of community members for decades? Great!
