When will St Mary’s/Alexandria publicly announce Honor Roll?

Anonymous
Or are they not doing that anymore? Don’t they want to celebrate and congratulate those who excelled at Academics?

Have other nearby schools (eg, St Louis, St Rita’s, Blessed Sacrament) done so?

Back again with a new thread? Time to take your kids out of St. Mary’s since you are so unhappy.

We are at another Alexandria parochial and they don’t make any announcements. The kids get honor roll certificates with their report cards.

That’s sad. Too bad your school doesn’t celebrate or acknowledge students who worked hard and excelled — presumably just to spare the feelings of those who didn’t.

You should save your money and go public. They too don’t really value academics.

St Mary’s traditionally publicly announced both Honor Roll and Principal’s List. Hopefully that hasn’t changed (eg, just bc some big donor’s kid didn’t make it).

I'm Tiger-parentish: I prize academic achievement above other forms of achievement.

But I couldn't care less that my kids' high school doesn't make a big deal out of who gets what grades. The only people who need to be impressed are the college admissions counselors and the hiring managers. My oldest is a college freshman and was hired for the summer on the strength of his high school grades, test scores and AP courses.

St. Mary's isn't even a high school.

Honor roll is a total joke. Get a life.

We are talking about elementary and middle schoolers. Relax.

Sorry your kids never made Honor Roll.

Hilarious that you come on this forum — where parents (likely including you) incessantly stress about every little minor aspect of private schools — and tell someone to “get a life” for wanting their kids’ school to celebrate honor roll. Too funny. I assume you’re being sarcastic.

Then they shouldn’t bother having honor roll at all.

I bet you’re one of those parents whose kids never make honor roll but then get “student of the month” for “demonstrating zeal,” and you think that’s amazing.

Even though this is a troll, I will bite-- what kind of "public announcement" are you looking for? I truly don't know what you mean by this. Like, your kid's name in the newsletter? Why would this be important to you?

Dp here. From what I’ve gathered on another thread, they traditionally included the names of honor roll students in an end of year email, but for some reason didn’t do it this year. Some people are finding that upsetting.

My kids go to a different k-8 that doesn’t do this, so as far as I know it’s not a diocesan-wide thing. The names are posted by the office in our school, but it’s pretty low key and you’d almost have to go looking for it to known it’s there.

They announce in emails every silly, mundane “accomplishment” by students, including sports stuff. You’d think that a SCHOOL would celebrate and publicly congratulate those who do well ACADEMICALLY as well. It used to be pretty common.

But I guess nowadays, they don’t want to hurt anyone’s iddy biddy feelings. Especially big donors’.

Well it sure seems like your "iddy biddy feelings" have been hurt.

What did they school say when you asked why it wasn't included?
