When will St Mary’s/Alexandria publicly announce Honor Roll?

Sorry your kids aren’t good enough to make it. But I do bet they get that cool “student of the month” award for showing “zeal” or whatever — for which the school suspends classes every month to have a big student assembly to publicly celebrate!

So backward. Celebrating mediocrity.

I’m starting to understand. Are you upset your child didn’t receive Student of the Month?

There’s only one of those. There are tons of honor roll recipients.

Actually, about a 35 pct of the class gets honor roll. Way less gets principals list. Again, sorry your kid couldn’t even make it in the top third.

I actually don’t know whether my kid ever got SOM. I don’t pay attention to arbitrary, silly awards like who has the most “zeal,” which are clearly intended simply to give an ego boost to big donors’ snowflakes.

35%? Wow. That’s a lot. Why so many? How many on principal’s list? That sounds like the list to publish.

Well, that’s probably the issue. I’m sure some big donors whined bc they’re snowflakes couldn’t even get into the top 40 pct of the class and were embarrassed (it undermined their family “brand” that they try to convey on social media with pics of all the “accomplishments” and fancy vacations, etc.). So the school probably gave in and decided to spare them the embarrassment.

Always follow the $$$.

People who do not want HONOR ROLL PUBLISHED want people to focus on their BRANd and FANCY VACATIONS. I SUPPORT that we HONOR ACADEMICS instead.

But your snowflake was in the top 35%? How is that even “top”?

Uh, stupid question: What’s the point of honor roll if they don’t announce it? Does St Mary’s also cover up the scoreboard during CYO basketball and then privately mail the players the final score?

Idiotic. Sad to see a private catholic school succumb to this sort of nonsense. I expect it in public schools. But not there.

Well, since that Q was asked and answered many pages ago (though the persistent and impolite PP - you, probably - doesn’t like the answer), it is, in this context, a stupid question.

lol. St Mary’s kids will be in for a rude awakening in the real world. They’re being taught that there’s no competition, performance doesn’t matter, and you’ll never be publicly ranked or evaluated against others. Good luck with that.

In the real world, everyone is equal. Your true ranking is kept private and mailed to you.

St Mary’s must hate the Olympics, with all those public rankings and celebrations of winners. If they were in charge, they’d probably just mail certificates to the athletes with their scores/times. Don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings!

My guess is the reason they don't announce is that most kids get it and announcing it would make everyone realize how ridiculous the grade inflation is.

also, why do you want the kids who DONT get it to be shamed by omission?

Ya'll should duke this out in person at the Sneak a Peek.
