Yep. Democracy in Virginia died in broad daylight.

Rare for democracy to die via referendum. Unprecedented even.

The hypocrisy is stunning. TX legislature forcing it through, dandy. Voters supporting it? Anti Democratic!

Democrats apparently are just supposed to sit there while Republicans steal things.

Well, see, Republicans deserve to be in power whether the people want them there or not!

The richest counties in VA will now control the poorest counties. Think about that

Why don’t you think about this. Farming communities and depressed states like West Virginia have been voting against their interests for decades. Has WV gotten any been in the decades of Republican rule? Have fertilizers, tariffs, and gasoline prices crushed Republican strong hold rural states? Yes. Farm bankruptcies (Chapter 12) jumped 46% in 2025.

While the purpose was to counter a lawless Gerrymandering Republican Party who consistently vote against federal bans, perhaps this will have the effect of actually helping people. You know Dems don’t want to give Elon another tax break, levy a tariff on farming equipment, or take away healthcare.

Maybe farmers should stop sending food to nova. That'd get you to shut up really quick.

Yeahbut then they wouldn’t get the subsidies for their crops. Farmers get over 220 billion a year and they still can not make money. It’s time to cut for all subsidies for these free loaders.

You mean the counties that voted for Trump?

What’s the issue?

There's no issue, PP is just worried that Democrats will actually help those poor VA counties instead of flogging culture war wedge issues like their current Republican representatives do.

Yeah, imagine having a representative who actually wants to help people in their district m.

Give Ds a chance. You might actually appreciate having someone who cares about your health, education, job, economy, etc.

I'm from MA. I know the future.

2nd best K-12 schools in the country, 3rd lowest property crimes in the country, 4th lowest murder rate in the country, 2nd highest median household income in the country (outside of DC), best hospitals in the country, 3rd lowest obesity rates in the country, and 2nd best human development index score in the country?

That's fantastic news! Virginians, and especially ROVA, should be jumping for joy!

Can you imagine the pearl clutching and hand wringing if someone here posted that NoVA should stop sending their tax dollars to the rest of the state? I dream of a world where Republicans hold themselves to the same standards they hold Democrats to.

As a Republican in NoVA, I'd settle for not sending my tax dollars to non-citizens.

Fairfax county representatives should not be representing counties farther away from them than New Jersey is to them. Larger states, it can be necessary (TX can take 10+ hours to drive across, for instance.)

two wrongs dont make a right and that is a texas issue not a virginia, why would you take away almost half the population's vote for an issue in texas?

Virginians correctly perceived that other states' gerrymandering affects the entire country. Look at how few Republicans are willing to stand up to the most nakedly corrupt and incompetent administration we've ever had. If Republicans in other states continue to entrench their majority, the only response is for Democrats to play by the same rules.

this is the true tyranny taking away people's vote

I'm glad we both agree that it is terrible that Republicans refuse to ban partisan gerrymandering.

Yep, Dems have been fighting gerrymandering for years. They're behind antigerrymandering laws in many states. But they can't just let Republicans steal the house by letting them do this unanswered.

Exactly.

Anyone arguing otherwise is not participating in good faith.

So you are saving the "poors" from themselves.....

What we have here are the government workers in VA controlling the state. Very different from TX

Hmmm what could have made the government workers so mad that they blew up the nonpartisan redistricting commission?

Truly, our tax dollars belong in the pockets of Trump’s friends and family. God forbid any of it be used to feed the hungry or for healthcare. Elon isn’t a trillionaire yet! We need to get our priorities straight! We don’t care if children die, billionaires need their fifth private jet.

Those are the rankings for Massachusetts, the state the PP was scared Virginia would become. Virginia is #10 in K-12 education, but it appears you did not take advantage of your time in school.

Because it impacts control of the US Congress. Why is it ok for one state to cheat and another not to be able to retaliate?

See, this is the issue - GOP thinks Texas gerrymandering is fine, that the Koch Lock on Wsconsin and Missouri are fine, that Ohio gerrymadering is great - but when a blue state does it to try to balance it out, the MAGAs get all salty. Rules for thee but not for me.

Honey it impacts control of half the Congress, the House. Cannot get laws without Senate. All the hearings and investigations in the world don't mean shit to a prez who does not care about rule of law.

So…sit back and do nothing?

UPDATE on referendum lawsuits: The Tazewell Circuit Court just ruled the referendum unconstitutional. The Judge entered an injunction blocking certification of the election & denied a motion to stay pending appeal. A final order will be entered once drafted, & it will be immediately appealed
