Boundary Review Meetings

South lakes is IB. What if the students does not want Ib and wants to transfer to Ap school. Which would be the choice?

This is just a crappy game of musical chairs. The school board should have left well enough alone.

There will be plenty of teachers willing to transfer there. And, schools losing membership will also need to lose teachers.

Do you think KAA will offer varsity sports next year? Thinking sports that don’t have JV like gymnastics.

How are they justifying adding another neighborhood to WSHS and moving a small single family neighborhood to Sangster ? I thought the whole point was to eliminate overcrowding.

Looks like the Hagel Circle swap from Halley to Gunston is going to happen. Halley will become one of the wealthiest elementary schools in the entire county, while Gunston gets an influx of FARMS students. Additionally, Gunston is getting the apartments just off Fort Belvoir and becomes a triple split feeder with kids going to Hayfield, Mount Vernon and South County. In exchange, they lose two nice neighborhoods to Island Creek. I don’t see another elementary school getting screwed as much as Gunston.

Yep. Not adding kids to Lewis is really saying the quiet part out loud.

I thought I read that 10-12th graders could stay at their original school during a boundary change.

From the FCPS website: “High Schools: When a boundary adjustment occurs at the high school level, attendance in the new school boundary shall be mandatory for incoming 9th grade students. Rising 10th-12th graders shall be given the option to remain at their current school or attend the school in the new boundary.”

My kids go to Sangster and I'm already zoned by LB, but I've been watching this closely and agree. I thought the whole point was to lower WSHS numbers, not just move more folks to WSHS? Typical FSPS nonsense if you ask me.

Numbers changed and it’s no longer projected to be overcrowded

It looks like they might be adding over 100 Rolling Valley town homes to WSHS.

But PP appears to be talking about KAA. According to Policy 8130, "These allowances shall not be applicable in the opening of a new school, or in the closing of an existing school."

The references to "allowances" refers to the grandfathering that would apply to other boundary changes.

When they open a new school, they generally want to get it up and running as much as possible. If they were starting with 9-11 grades at KAA, they might give 11th graders an option, but it sounds like they want to start with 9-10 grades, and students in those grades won't be grandfathered. They could still try to pupil place.
