Did anyone know about this survey back in February? How did you find out about the survey for parents? The response rate is really low. I'm just curious why MCPS did not announce this via email to all parents rather than just posting a quick note on the News page.

It was sent via email, several times |
|
I'm a parent and I got an email from MCPS about it on Feb. 21st. Subject line: "Share your feedback on academics, communication, and overall satisfaction with MCPS."
There was another email on March 5th. Subject line: "Survey Open—Share Your Valuable Input and Feedback." And a third email on March 20th. Subject line: "Survey Open Until March 22; Fill Out the Districtwide Climate Survey Today!" |
| Surveys typically have low response rates. Unless someone continues following up as they did when trying to figure out which MS Spanish immersion families kids would attend, circa 2015 |
Thanks! Is it from noreply@mcpsmd.org? I have never seen these emails. |
I know you're trying to find something to blame MCPS, but this actually makes you look bad if you're a parent. But then again, you might be on the trolls always trying to start $hit. |
Yes, all three were from that address. |
| Not only did I get all of the emails cited above, but I also got multiple reminders from my child's school in the weekly newsletter from the principal. Responses were low, but I don't know that they were excessively low for the norm for online surveys. |
Simply asking a question doesn't mean I'm blaming MCPS. I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. If you know the answer, please share. If not, feel free to ignore it. Thanks! |
That's great your school reminded the parents. Our school didn't say anything about it. |
You asked a loaded question. You know damn well where you wanted it to lead. |
|
They hammered the survey as much as they could multiple times.
Here's the issue: 1. MCPS does too many damn surveys and parents don't have time and/or don't see the value in filling them out. 2. MCPS has a track record of gathering feedback and then ignoring it, so people have learned not to waste their time 3. Surveys work for highly educated, intrinsically motivated parent populations. That's not what we have across large swaths of MCPS. 4. People don't trust that feedback they give will be anonymous and don't want retaliation for exposing MCPS's underbelly. |
Wow! |
| and 5. The majority of families are happy enough w MCPS. DCUM exists to discuss problems - it is profoundly not representative of overall experiences |
Keep telling yourself that. If the majority of families are happy enough with MCPS, incumbents would not be getting voted out en masse in the BOE elections. Also, if you saw the results of the climate survey from the people who did respond in the session, I don't see how you can walk away with that rosy of an assessment of MCPS. |
