| Is anyone else annoyed that jumpers now walk over sides of the turnstiles? It’s so much more obvious and disruptive. Especially, large groups. |
|
Bigger issue seems to be people trying to piggyback on paying customers, thereby setting up potential for confrontations. The fare hopper needs to physically invade the physical space of the paying customer. It’s scared a lot of women.

| Yes I had someone scare the crap out of me by running up behind me when I went through. I had my young child with me and I thought that were going to rob me or grab her. I very rarely ride the metro anymore. |
One of many reasons I no longer ride the metro. |
Metro transit police and MPD need to become more aggressive about enforcing against fare theft and other violations. 2020 is so over. |
| They don't even need to take cases to court. Simply arrest and make fare jumpers sit on the station floor in flex cuffs for a few hours. It will be a deterrence example to others. |
| Flood responsible authorities with complaints, get newspapers and tv programs to highlight the issue. |
| So many racists on this thread. |
| I don’t care about that. |
|
Probably teens who have lost their one card. I don't care either way. I don't see too many people who have a job doing it and possibly jeopardizing getting in trouble.
Teenagers walk into bus in DC all the time without paying. There is nothing to jump over. |
They should just have an open passageway for people who prefer to not pay, but I believe the children enjoy the exercise of hopping over or pushing through behind someone. |
| Lock them all up. Time to get crime under control in DC. Oh wait not a crime anymore. Good job DC. |
This made me laugh. |
I agree. If it is free now, which it basically is, then make it free for everyone and don’t discriminate. Signed, Feeling like a fool for paying |
|
I posted years ago that this would be the consequence of the new fare gates. Any solution needs to involve fare evasion enforcement. Otherwise the fare evaders will just shadow paying customers and make everyone feel less safe.
Most crimes on the Metro are committed by people who don’t pay, so keeping them out of the system is critical. Stronger physical barriers will only keep out the morbidly obese, the disabled, the moms pushing a stroller, etc., who generally don’t threaten anyone. |
