who else is just totally numb now?

I can feel it setting in.

I started thinking about this yesterday, when I realized there had barely been any reaction to Florida's six week abortion ban going into effect - and I live in Florida. The stupid gd Alito flag thing. The polls showing this race so dismally close that I can't even believe it - while young leftists are trying to make sure Trump wins. THAT GUY.

I feel like the thing that people have been warning about is finally happening to me - I'm starting to tune out. I'm just so numb now.

Are you feeling that way? How are you overcoming it? I feel like now is the time we need to be most fired up - and I am just so tired. It's been 10 years of this now.

If Trump gets back in the next virus will need to be released.

Find one news source and read it. Take some time away from online and talk to people in real life, especially the youngsters. Then come back.

It’s hard not to be numb with the way it feels like we’re being collectively sleepwalked into disaster while being distracted by a show.

I went numb when Biden and Trump are the only 2 contenders. That's pretty devastating to have a geezer losing his mind and a criminal as our only choices. Does it really get worse from there?

This calm and well reasoned post will not be received well on this board.

I relate OP and I relate to this too. I don’t know. I’m tired and this incessant dysfunctional politicking isn’t healthy. The tides of history tell us what will happen. Our nation is crumbling. It’s an empire that is falling. Authoritarian rule is what holds things together for longer once at this stage. Is that the next election or in 10 years or 20 years? Can’t say. But it’s coming. It will bring relative peace and calm while our liberties are slowly stripped away. And eventually the empire will still fall. Maybe in 50-100 or so years. As much as we don’t want to hear it, the very clear and repeated historical cycles don’t lie. And we have given zero indication that we’d do things differently this time.

The volume will continue to be cranked up until Election Day and it’s already pretty loud. That’s why I think this election will have the highest turnout of all time.

You get the candidates you vote for. It's not like there weren't better or younger options.

Maybe you are refocusing on your circle of control and influence and not so much the circle of concern, which is really not useful or conducive to peace of mind or anything good in life. It's a healthier approach.

while young leftists are trying to make sure Trump wins.

in what way?
I think ppl ARE tired, of talking about it, hearing about it, and will vote accordingly, likely for Biden, so the place calms down.

It's been far longer than 10 years.

I assume you are young enough to have come of age during the Obama era. I'm afraid the relative calm of that time was the exception, not the rule.

But, you have the right idea; Focus on what you can control.

I'm not that young - I'm 50. This is the most exhausting political period of my whole life. It's just relentless.

The GOP has taken to heart Steve Bannon’s (which is itself stolen from Russian propaganda, I’m pretty sure) maxim to “flood the zone with [poop].” You’re exhausted because that’s one of their goals. They hope you get so exhausted that you check out totally. They want you feel like both sides are equally responsible and so that when you check out, you check out not just from keeping up with their misdeeds and crimes, but also from voting for Democrats.

It's social media making everything seem worse. Try to not be on your phone and read news much less.

Yup. They win if Ds stay home. It's their only path to the White House and the following horrors.
