Getting into St. Albans

Since the group here is sneaking in the "commended label" (veiled attempt to inflate numbers) I suspect if this "commended label" is added to the TJ and Blair Magnet group we may be talking upwards of 75 to 90 % of each graduating class. Note there are twice the number of commended individuals than NMSFs at STA. if this is true for TJ and Blair Magnet then we are talking about the majority of the class (> 80%). A statistically significant disparity with any area private school any how anyone wants to play with the numbers!

Wow, potential > 80% number for Blair Magnet and TJ if one does a similar analysis as done for STA?

Also, the information confirms that ringers are not coming from the feeder pipeline at Grade 4 but in later years. I think we've all known this and understand why. Important for the school to bring in higher performing students in their academic pipeline to get the end result at the PSATs.

Yuppers. My DS is a Beauvoir alum and I ran similar NMSF numbers a few years ago. Certainly making damn sure that my boy's one of the 10/11 with high PSAT results.

Amazing how so many talk about this marvelous and superior education that STA provides and then their Beauvoir sons end up at Lehigh University.

Interesting issue is that the qualifying score in VA is 3 points lower than in MD and DC (218 v 221). So TJ has a slight edge in racking up the numbers over Blair, RM, Whitman and the private schools. Too bad we don't live in Wyoming where the qualifying score is only 201.

Are TJ's scores listed anywhere? It's possible that the bulk of their commended students are scoring over 210. In order to be commended (DC school scholars) you need a what 210?

NMSF cut off for DC was 223 this year.
Marylnad cutoff was 220.
Va was 218.

Hey former college snob -- what the hell is wrong with Lehigh?

So what if an STA boy goes on to Lehigh or god forbid a state college?! Isn't the point that he has a great educational foundation and succeeds at college?! Not everyone goes to Harvard by the way. And even though I did (go to Harvard) I want my kids to go where they WANT to go and where they feel is the best fit for them, and for what they want to study. STA college admissions are impressive not just because of the number of Ivy league admits but also because of the variety of schools where the boys go too. People who say things like I'm not paying 35k to end up at U of Michigan (or fill in the blank) are absolutely clueless IMHO. The reason to send your son to STA or kid to a private in the first place is not a means to an end (ie get in good college (narrowly defined by DCUM snobs) or else). It is a means. The educational experience is worth it, not because of where the boy may end up at school.
