Wizards and Caps could be moving to Potomac Yard

This is awesome!!

Opens up the entire market north of the Potomac to the NHL Chesapeake Blue Crabs on middle branch or Curtis bay right off 95 south of Camden yards!!!

It will instantly be one of the most valuable nhl teams in the league and even pull fans from Delaware and Norfolk.

And it’s own arena with no “Wizards” depression.

^^ Baltimore knows how to do it

Camden yards warehouse.. ravens .. orioles .. blue crabs

And good food , authentic old nostalgic goodness. Plus lacrosse center of the world.

When I look at how much professional sports teams are raking in to be able to do things like pay an individual player $700 million for a 10 year contract, I'm pretty damn sure that they can also afford to pay for their own damn stadiums and not have taxpayers cough up for it.

Unless one lives in Crystal City, Pentagon City or Del Ray, the site is basically inaccessible for everyone else by adding at least an hour of total travel time as compare to getting to Gallery Place.

Really? DC is closer to Mt Vernon than Alexandria is? Huh, TIL.

how many people in Mt Vernon go to the games? What percentage?

hint: not very many. MOST of the patrons for the Caps and Wizards are coming from DC and MD. So Ted is putting a huge burden on those fans to continue to come to the games

You don't even know what you are talking about. A bunch of the actual Caps live in Old Town.

Not they don’t. Majority of them live in Arlington/McLean/Great Falls. Holtby might be back there but then again he’s a former Cap now

Wrong.

Ok you believe what you want

Pro sports is one of the few products outside of fossil fuels and grain that is semi elite. The rest is grifting worthlessness.

The true value of America is a place where people have enough guns to own land and scare off murderous control freaks afraid of getting shot.

"a bunch" - what, maybe 5% of caps fans and 2% of Wizards fans? Yes, the team lives all over the place. John Carlson lives in Bethesda. So what?

Sure, so those folks will be able to walk/bike trapes their way north to get to the site. Everyone else will be cramming into Metro or trying to make their way south on RT from Glebe and 395 etc and the road capacity there isn't anywhere close to being able to handle it.

Moving the goal posts now? I guess you're just pissed you lost the stadium. Ha.

No, I am stating reality that a lot of the existing fan base - most actually, even those who live in Fairfax and points west and north - will not try to go to weeknight games at Potomac Yards. It is terrible road and transit infrastructure with no obvious solutions.

The illusion here is that this move benefits VA residents. It does not really. The distance between Great Falls and Capital One and PY is nearly identical. And, given the traffic nightmare in PY, the drive from GF to PY will take longer. The same is true from Reston Town Center. The fact is that there are multiple exits from DC into NoVa. There are not multiple exits from PY.

I would argue that this move will alienate a lot of DC and MD fans who simply will watch the games on TV or do something else with their entertainment dollars.

The wizards have been irrelevant for decades and the Caps have only been supported in the Ovi era. Once he retires, will people care, unless the team is able to draft another generational talent?

Yep Ted is a terrible owner. His record of losing teams year after year is well defined. This just goes to show it better to be lucky vs competent. He made a lucky score to get rich and he has milked that one success for everything. He is in the Den Snyder category of owners.

Ted is not a terrible owner but he has lost some goodwill here. The region has had 2 of the worst owners in professional sports-namely, Snyder and Angelos.

Ooooh, now you want to claim Angelos. LOL.

And how did fans make it to DC? Clogging up roads in their cars or cramming into Metro? Oh.

If you can't see the difference between one location that has all 6 metro lines feeding it as well as a diffuse road network, versus another that has basically one road and one metro line, I don't know what to tell you.

Exactly. And they have a tax rate lower than 99% of the population. Just bread and circuses.

Consider learning about general geography and sports markets before posting again.

LOL good luck Virginia. Please take the Commanders while you’re at it. We don’t want them at RFK.

No Metro access, we are trying to get people out of cars, Delawareans gravitate towards the Philadelphia teams, Norfolk is over 200 miles away
