Why is the Latin style of soccer so dominant in the world cup tournaments?

The exact same could be said about the Latins in Europe. Romania is not very good internationally. Neither is Portugal.

Now I KNOW that we're not talking about men's football/soccer, right? Because the Portugal national team won the Euros in 2016 and the UEFA Nation's League in 2019...

They beat all of the other Latins, the Gauls, the Huns, the Dacians, the Thracians, the Moesians, the Macedonians, the Britons, the Vandals, the Hibernians, the Caledonians, and the Achaeans.

How about the Mesopotamians?

Not in UEFA. They compete in Asia Major.

INTERNATIONALLY = WORLD

Now I know this is a troll, because not a single person alive with even a passing knowledge of soccer could be this completely stupid. Not even in the US.

Ah, and who could forget the wisdom found carved into the wall at Pompeii:

Etiam pila modulatum est in caput tuum. Pedes tua sunt tantum instrumenta.

With gems like that, of course the Latins dominate.

I also know someone from England who married a Latin American.

The differences were by far more noticeable between the person from England than the other 2.

Obviously, how do people not see that?!

Whatever you call them, I would go for any of those teams over England!

Why would you do that?

Because I see the connection op is talking about. I even speak several romance languages and my background is a mix of several of those countries. I am a soccer fan like my parents, grandfather, great grandfather and all my relatives. I didn't come into soccer later and buy my towheaded boy a pulisic jersey for the US and an England jersey. Perhaps the better question is why would you go for England? Your reasons are good too though.

Somebody in this thread for whatever reason does not like Spanish, French and Portuguese people and wants to deny the connection they have to each other. They also probably do not celebrate Columbus day either.

Isn’t anyone from NYC/New Amsterdam really Dutch?

Why are Americans not all Latin?

Your history teacher failed you.

Latin countries have language that derives from Latin. This thread has at least 5 different interpretations going on, but for good reason. The original question is, "Why is the Latin style of soccer so dominant in the world cup tournaments?" Then OP lists all the countries. This gives the impression that Latin style is as much French and it is Brazilian. Anyone who watches the world game knows that these countries play the game much differently. Football has been extremely successful in taking hold as the national team sport in most of these countries. That is why they are so successful in the world cup. Not because there is a certain style they all play. The problem is with the hypothesis. Not with the debate. When Americans hear "Latin", they automatically think Mexico on south through South America and they are not wrong. Many of those countries do play a similar style. The "Latin" countries in Europe do not though. Belgium is technically a Latin country. I don't think many people would connect their style to that of Peru.

The guy from Portugal communicates with his wife in basic Spanish and in Portuguese.
The guy from Italy communicates with his wife in basic Spanish and in Italian.
The guy from England does not speak any Spanish, Portuguese or Italian so he and his wife communicate in broken English.

When I went roller skating one time in Mexico in the 1980s. The DJ was playing songs in Italian. The Mexican kids knew all the words.
