What kind of sales she do for IBM? |
| Government software dev/innovation space. $180k plus yearly retention bonus of 15-20%. 40 hours a week and helping people of the US. |
|
Fintech here in the finance department. I make $180 base but my RSU package adds another $130k/year, making it $300k.
That said RSUs can mean nothing….or we’ll be rich. |
DP here - sorry she does sales for an company that sells IBM products but works closely with IBM. She sells hardware. |
| Regulatory stuff at a Series C startup. TC 550k including NSOs/ISOs. |
| Strategy stuff at a series C startup. TC $730K including NSOs/ISOs. |
So she works for a reseller. They often are 100% commission. The OEMs pay a base plus commission. My DH is in tech sales and his OTE is 265k, but usually makes around 425k. I'm in ops and this is my pay to date for this year. 215,290.57. I hope to hit 240k. |
| data scientist, federal fin agency, $218K (non-supervisory gs-15 like), 40 hours week. No stress, 4 days/week telework, amazing W/L balance, pension. |

I wish this field of work was the least bit interesting to me. I’d love to have made this kind of money / be in such demand.
Doing well in the core areas of (mandatory) course work still didn’t make it compelling. Hats off to any of you who also find the work meh but manage to stick with it. You have my awe. |
| Why did I go into medicine??? Is this only after 4 year of undergraduate. I’m seriously questioning my career now. |
Hopefully you loved the science behind it and wanted to help people. That's certainly what I heard most of my pre-med friends say. I don't think anybody expected tech to boom the way it has. I was just a kid who loved to code. I stumbled into a couple lucky IPOs and was retired by the time my MD friends finished up their fellowships and started private practice. |
Please, my DC1 is on his way to be a radiologist. He'll make over half a million, will have job security and a lot of flexibility in locations. We have a family member who is a derm and pulling multimillions per year with injectables and lasers. My H is in sales and it's super cut throat and nothing is guaranteed. |
Could be worse. You could have been a lawyer. Imagine that level of empty. Out of everyone here you at least can sleep well at night knowing you've made a positive difference in the world. |
| These salaries make me feel like crap. I am 35 and finally managed to get into a tech startup making 85k after months of applying to FAANG with no responses. |
Why is it that you are 35 and JUST got a job in tech? Did you switch careers? Most people in tech have been doing so since they graduated undergrad. |
