Huh. DD’s teachers said there is a dashboard that allows them to see what the kids are doing. Why do the kids need to keep logs?

My 2nd grader also had the penguin building a bridge, and she enjoyed the game but got frustrated because she had to start over every time she closed out. Is there no way to save progress?

It's public school. It's not an al a carte menu.

It's on the optional side of my child's task board.

My dc's teachers are going to be seeing no progress, b/c I told them not to do any imagine learning or ST math.

Of course they like it - it is mindless clicking on a crazy penguin. But they also like ice cream for dinner and unlimited movie time. Did you look at it? Do you think it is adding to their understanding of math?

DP. My not-mathematically-inclined DC has actually gotten better at estimating on the number line. I'm sorry that I'm not a part of the hate fest.

Yes, he got stuck and frustrated, when he was doing it wrong. But he has improved.

I am sure if kids spend a 100 hours on this stupid penguin they would gain some knowledge. But what can be taught in a minute and better understood by kids now takes an hour.

So the screen time to knowledge ratio is pretty bad. Possibly the worst of any online program that I noticed so far.

I am fine with DL, we got to do with what we have. But ST Math straight up a massive waste of time.

^Yup, ST Math is a massive waste of time. Teachers and adm are hard at work looking for more crap like this.

Yes, but that's expected. That's the idea. The math lessons build on the idea that making a mistake is ok. Our brains grow when we make mistakes and that is how we learn. The students are learning that constructive struggle is not a bad thing. It's about sticking to it. Persevering and problem solving.

What about non-constructive clicking endless clicking? What are they learning from that?

Little kids need repetition. They're not mini adults.

Keep you child clicking away at the penguin!

Seriously, yes they need repetition, but it is mindless clicking. Absolute nonsense clicking that I have a problem with.

I had my child do math from a couple of books that were used by elder child. So much more helpful. I do agree 100% that repetition is important.

Mindless clicking would mean they’re just clicking and getting it wrong or hoping they get lucky. If they’re consistently getting it right and progressing, there is thinking involved.

Nope. My daughter, who is in 9th grade, took over the clicking and it still took almost an hour to get thru ONE "puzzle" iof the same exact thing, and she didn't miss any questions. That might be their marketing pitch but it's not the reality.
