He has Ulcerative colitis. |
I assume that they are looking for all possible drug reactions, but my son had a serum-sickness like reaction to penicillin that might be similar. whole body rash, swollen joints, high fever. |
Im so sorry youre going through this. My 2 year old at the time ran a high fever for 3/4 days and wouldnt let me put him down to walk for two of those days. We took him to the ER in France (we were on vacation) and they ran tests, found nothing going on but inflammation markers high as well. We had him on pain releivers/fever reducers and he got better in a few days. Never found out what it was. They said it was a 'virus.' I hope its something as simple and short lived as this for you and your son. Sending you prayers. |
+1. DD also had this. |
Is this OP? |
OP, have they checked for myositis? |
Hoping for another good night for you and your son, OP! |
No way - NP with UC |
DD had this as a 2 year old. She had an ear infection and took amoxicillin. About a week later had a horrible rash (she seriously looked like a baby in a medical textbook). We went to the ped who initially diagnosed her with hand foot and mouth for the rash and thought nothing more of it. A few days later she stopped walking, but being so young couldn't articulate that it was her joints that hurt. We took her to urgent care and they explained it was basically short term acute arthritis. Thankfully went away on its own but was VERY scary for a few hours when we had no idea what was happening |
Children’s has an absolute amazing Chief of rheumatologist - for any strange autoimmune issues |
I actually had a friend who was diagnosed with this at a young age. Wondering if op is ashkenazi/Jewish. |
Ugh- my sister has it and was diagnosed young. |
Good morning, OP. Any updates on your son? |
I don’t think those are typical UC symptoms (family member with UC) |
OP here, so.....He has been fever free for 24 hours. I should have looked at what my last update was before I started typing this, but they have 3 things they are looking at 1) tick illness 2)autoimmune disease 3) MIS-C which is covid related. We are off isolation as 2 tests here at children's came back negative. He is still getting 2 IV antibiotics. They are still awaiting results of some labs. The main team is going to talk to the infectious disease team today to talk about discharge since he is pain and fever free and follow up out patient. So we will should know today if he's going home today or tomorrow or needs to stay longer. |
