DJO won vs. St. Mary's Ryken today.
Maybe the wind has shifted? |
| one of games was 12-3 DJO so team is starting to put goals up. DJO hosts PVI tonite wonder if it will be webcast? |
| St. Mary's Ryken doesn't have a strong lax program. PVI will crush DJO. |
| PVI 15, DJO 2 |
| JV PVI 18, DJO 1 |
| I hope DJO beings to recruit and can be more competitive. WCAC could use the DJO/Rykens/ BI's of the world to get the conference a bit more balanced these days. |
I still don't understand how they CAN'T recruit. Would you rather stay 2nd or even 3rd string at another WCAC school or go to O'Connell and immediately be one of the 3 best players on the TEAM? Do they not get any level of support from a tuition/recruiting standpoint? |
DJO does offer more tuition relief but apparently it's not enough to sway families from going to other Catholic or local schools. It would also help to find a permanent coach who will be there for a few years - does anybody have any recommendations to give DJO? |
The challenge for DJO, and many other private school programs, is that in addition to the need for coaching stability, there is a limited number of talented kids who play club lacrosse at a high enough level to make a difference at the program level. If your son is a good lacrosse player on a high level club team, AND your family has the $$, then it’s just easier to go to an established private school program vice trying to turn around a lousy one. If your family doesn’t have the $$, and you’re already on a top club team, then playing for free with your public school makes more sense. Bottom line for DJO, unless they can find a coach who can recruit 10-12 talented club kids to be at DJO at the same time, they will always struggle. |
| That may be true but there are kids on the PVI and SJC bench better off at DJO |
| Heights won 18-4 against DJO |
| Heights is a program in the rise |
Don’t all of the top players play for top club teams? And there are only 3-4 top clubs, correct? If those clubs only feed a few schools then I don’t think it would matter what kind of coaching you have there is not enough talent. |
Heights has like 550 kids for grades 3-12. They punch above their weight class for sure. Heights has solid players and they are well coached. |
