Optics don't matter anymore. When Trump was impeached but not removed, that was a green light. He can do anything. He will do anything.

When you're a star, you can do anything, he said.

My guess is that it's much more straight forward and more about what he wouldn't do rather than what he is doing. People can compartmentalize ethically questionable inactions more than actions. I'm guessing he refused to go after Bolton or Biden.

That's a bad guess then because Barr can always go after Bolton or Biden himself or through a special prosecutor.

Not if he doesn't want it to look like a bald political act. It has to be something immediate and in the now. Trump doesn't plan things out ahead of time. I also think it has to be an action rather than an inaction.

Could post this quote in several threads including but not restricted to the thread about the horrific Covid19 death toll (120,000 souls) and the thread about the revelations in the Bolton book (approving of putting over a million people in concentration camps etc).

And this is why, no matter what it is that Donald Trump has done, I ALWAYS name the GOP as well. This is a systemic problem within the GOP: they are all guilty of enabling this, which means they want this.

Frankly, I think Berman might actually have been doing his job or letting the attorneys beneath him do theirs and continue to investigate Trump and his spawn, Barr, etc., and Trump couldn’t handle it.

I further wonder if Donald’s dementia is getting to the point where it will be undeniable to even the most fervent Trumpers, if the Trump side is trying to negotiate a no-prosecute agreement in return for his resignation and if SDNY is refusing to play ball because the crimes are so heinous.

Bolton and Biden don’t have anything to go after in Berman’s jurisdiction, though.

These were mentioned on the first page.

You are just making stuff up. They are not afraid of "bald political acts." They do them every day. You are right that Trump.doesn't plan, but that is irrelevant to your point.

Are we winning yet?

Clayton is an odd pick for SDNY because he doesn’t have prosecutorial experience. But he is otherwise a highly competent lawyer and reasonable/honest person.

...with numerous possible conflicts of interests with some cases under investigation.

Trump will either do it and have an immediate obstruction of justice charge, or else he will back down and look even weaker than he already is.

Good for a patriot like Berman.

It’s not clear he can even be fired. He wasn’t senate confirmed. He was appointed by the court. He is taking the position that only the court can remove him and without that he will stay until someone else is senate confirmed.

Monday morning could be incredibly interesting in that office.

If it is litigated, it is really unclear how this would play out.

Trump has fired people that he does not clearly have the authority to fire. Obviously he can fire a US Attorney.

Cites for the people for whom he had no authority to fire.

And if he has actual conflicts of interest as determined by the ethics office, he will recuse himself, as do other appointees, almost all of whom will have conflicts in some cases.

Boente. Also Cordray, although that was ambiguous.

So fourteen hours into a full blown controversy, DOJ hasn’t supplied a single reason for why Barr is trying to force Berman out, even a laughable one. That obviously speaks volumes on its own.
