I find it interesting that they still call their school paper the Black and White but back in the May 1, 2019 issue this was mentioned
"Admittedly, The Black & White lacks enough non-white voices, and we’re making a priority—albeit a late one—to recruit minority students for next year’s staff. Other student organizations, from Whitman Shorts to the music department to the art program, should make a concerted effort to diversify their programs and extend opportunities to minority students that are often a given for white students. "https://theblackandwhite.net/63963/opinion/forget-whitmans-reputation-lets-talk-about-racism/ You be the judge, did thy make that a priority? Here is their current staff https://theblackandwhite.net/volume-56-staff/ |
Maybe you never heard this (now obsolete) joke? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newspaper_riddle |
No clearly they didn't but they have learned from their parents to justify it by having white minorities and Asians and calling it diversity. |
Some people see what they want to see. |
| I love how DCC parents love rip schools that don’t have the appropriate paper diversity while signaling their virtues about how they chose a cheaper house for the good of the country. All while they fight tooth and nail to get their kids in programs that keep their kids out of the general population be it CES, magnet or immersion what have you. There are no black kids to speak of in the magnet even while located in a majority minority school like Blair. I wonder why they are so competive, what is it that makes it so desirable hummmmm. Must be the tough science classes because those kids are all geniuses right? |
LOL. Your Blair envy is showing up but we are talking about racist incidents again, about your w school. |
| Actually it proves Whitman is diverse. They would not spray paint such a thing otherwise |
Sounded like a 17 year old so likely current student |
What’s more racist, halls filled with minorities saying to each other thousands a time a day or a white school where the kids are terrfyied to use it and get called out publicly if the do? Eat at any of the restaurants or the McDonald’s by blair during lunch or after school. The N word is a way bigger problem at Blair, they are just too dumb to realize it |
^^^^ why schools need diversity... so your not as stupid as this poster. |
I think they brought up the same unverifiable anecdote a few years ago too. Bottom line is these problems are actual incidents at the W routinely whereas they aren't at schools like Blair despite the imaginative whataboutery. |
It is more racist for while kids to use it than it is for kids of color. Yes, you are right. Besides, do the Blair kids also spray paint nooses around campus? That's a direct threat of violence right there. It's racialized terrorism, aimed at making Whitman and other predominantly white institutions inhospitable to Black kids. |
I was told that the McD's across from Whitman kids has kids goosestepping in mags hats. |
What is your point? From the link you provided, I see 13 kids who are non-white. What if POC aren't interested in working on the paper? Should kids of color be FORCED to join, simply because those with no ties to the paper (sans googling an article from 14 months ago) now think it should be a "priority"? Why have you now deemed the staff too white, but prior to George Floyd's murder, where was your concern? Every single kid, no matter what color they are, has to have an actual INTEREST in an activity to want to spend time after school doing it. I'm AA, and there is absolutely no possible way I would have worked on a high school paper because I have ZERO interest in it, let alone because someone else thinks I should. Based on the current staff, they definitely don't appear to be trying to keep the kids of color out. So, what exactly is your point? Until a student of color comes forward and says that they really wanted to work on the paper, but they believe they were denied doing so because of their skin color, this argument is laughable and grasping at straws to fit a certain narrative. You CANNOT force kids to sign up for an activity that they have no interest in whatsoever... most especially because some are worried about some "perceived" affirmative action quota, or because all of a sudden this issue has become a priority to non POC (who've never given it a second thought prior to their new found & guilt driven SJW cause).
And with that being said, please share... When did this particular issue become important to you? What have you done thus far to make this right? |

We need racial quotas for school newspapers! IF people won't voluntarily make it diverse, we should force it.
