The University was shut down over the racist graffiti and the racist graffiti was applied by an African American male who vandalized the University. I believe the African American male is looking at up to 18 months of prison time.

Friday was virtual graduation day for Whitman Seniors. It was a day of celebration, albeit in the middle of social distancing during Coronavirus.
On such a day someone committed that hate crime. It must be running in the genes and the upbringing. Cowards do bad things in the dark. Cowards do bad things in groups overpowering a single person. Cowards do bad things while armed to the teeth and attacking an unarmed person.

But I agree that people are not genetically destined to become bigots.

But no one else, particularly people commenting here, know who it is. Therefore, it is pointless to speculate on how someone’s upbringing or community contributed to what happened.

This is a perfect example of something that should be handled by a social worker, not police. Ok!ice can figure out who did it and then let social workers take it from there.

If you really want to support Black Whitman students defend their right to attend their neighborhood school. Write to the Board of Ed and tell them that Whitman needs to purge the staff that tolerate racism by students. And you can donate to Whitman’s MSP program so they can do more anti racism work.

They need to do more work at the middle school, too, before those kids get to whitman. MCPS also needs to do a better job training the administrators who train and write up teachers.

It does make a difference who does it, IMO.

The kid who was making phone threats to synagogues in MoCo a few years ago, was going to be an Israeli teen.

There was graffiti on our local synagogue and it turned out that one of the people involved had a mom who worked at the synagogue.

I think they need to prosecute these as harsher simply because it’s vandalism. Focus on the fact that you shouldn’t destroy someone else’s property. No matter what you’re writing.
